River Alliance of Wisconsin
Annual Food-and-Water Event

Farmers and agriculturalists doing good things by and for the rivers are featured annually.  Cedar Grove in Plain, Wisconsin is this year's feature.

-We'll tour the farm of a Cedar Grove provider and see an amazing working ecosystem that processes the factory's waste water and discharges clean water into Honey Creek.

-Indulge in great cheese, local edibles and potables.

-Meat from Willow Creek Farm prepared by Nutshell Catering.

-Whole Foods Market, Willy Street Coop, and local area businesses providing food.

Cost: $35 per person (children 12 and under free)

    Cedar Grove, Otter Creek, & Pleasant Ridge Reserve cheese (and Amy's entrees with their cheese), are great environmental stewards. They have The Living Machine, TLM is designed to be a working ecosystem. It uses natural microbes and a collection of hydroponic plants. Washwater (containing soaps that are chlorinated, acidic, & caustic cleaners, from cleaning milk trucks, tanks, cheese vats, & the cream separator), is biologically processed back into clean water that is discharged into Honey Creek nearby. TLM handles 7,000 gallons per day and takes 3-4 days to run through a system of multiple tanks.

    Go visit Cedar Grove Cheese in Plain Wisconsin for a really interesting tour! They have also started Clock Shadow Creamery in Milwaukee to make fresh cheeses and supply the various ethnic festivals with fresh cheese in their country's style. This weekend I tried Quark, a great fresh German cheese in a sour cream or cream cheese style. Wonderful. Sold at the Co-op too!
