Our second meeting of the year is Thursday, February 21st at 7 p.m.
We normally meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month but that would have been Valentines Day this year so the meeting is moved to Thursday February 21st.
This meeting takes place in Room 208 of the Hunter Park Community Center, 8830 Gurley Road, Douglasville, GA 30134.
Spouses / significant others and friends, as always are welcome!
If you would like to bring some snacks, I'm sure the other members will appreciate that.
The club will supply a variety of drinks.
SPEAKER/JUDGE: Our guest speaker for this month is Larry Winslett who is the official nature photographer for Stone Mountain and has published several books on Stone Mountain.
Larry is very active in efforts to preserve and record nature in Georgia and is heading up the Sierra Club's efforts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act.
If you are not familiar with Georgia's designated Wilderness Areas you can learn about them here. http://www.wilderness.net/index.cfm?fuse=NWPS&sec=stateView&state=GA
and find out more about Larry here: http://www.larrywinslett.com/ and order his books and sign up for his workshops.
THIS MONTH’S CONTEST: “Diagonals” - Photos with a diagonal composition, or strong diagonals as the subject of the photo.
We had three field trips for this month's meeting - Open Ended at the Clinton Reserve, February 10th at Oakland Cemetery - Instructor led and February 6th at Callaway Gardens - Instructor led.
CHANGE OF LOCATION STARTING NEXT MONTH:
We were made an offer to move our meetings from Hunter Park to the new Douglasville Conference Center (6701 Church St, Douglasville, GA 30134) for the same price and acting on behalf of the club, Hoke Smith accepted this offer after reviewing the facility with several other members.
If you would like to read a good article about the new Conference Center: http://douglasville.patch.com/articles/city-invites-hundreds-to-new-conference-center-opening .
This facility has many things to offer that Hunter Park does not:
Larger (at least twice the size)
More comfortable chairs
Configurable for classroom sessions if we decide to have that for a meeting
Very nice place with areas where people can mingle and talk prior to our meetings, during breaks and after the meeting adjourns.
No time cutoff as we have at Hunter Park.
Top of the line projection system utilizing HDMI connectivity and quality.
The room is set up better so that all members can see the screen better.
The speakers can face the club while giving their presentation and reviewing the photos.
COVERED PARKING!!! Rain-soaked members at the January meeting would have appreciated that.
One drawback is that no food or drinks can be brought in by the club.
Due to this restriction, Hoke reserved Hunter Park for our December Potluck dinner meeting – Jennifer Bean was very gracious in accepting this request.
Jennifer is head of event planning at the Douglasville Conference Center and Hunter Park Community Center.
