First meetup of 2013

A very happy new year to you folks, we hope you all had a great break over the holidays and you are ready for some SydPHP action!

For the first meetup of 2013 we thought it would be good to have a theme for the first half of the session followed by an open mic style session (similar to what we had back in November) for the second half.

The theme we have chosen is Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP).

Dave Clark will give an introductory overview of AOP and Artur Ejsmont will provide an overview of a project he has been working on with Shawn Murphy which employs AOP concepts (see

As mentioned above, the second half of the evening will be an open mic style Q&A session so if you have something you want to share or you would like to learn more about a particular topic then don’t hold back.

Hope to see you on Thursday the 31st at Sydney Mechanics School of Arts.

All the best, SydPHP Organisers

Hi folks, great to see this of you who made it last night and thanks to Art for telling us about phpProxyBuilder!
I made a video today of the content I presented last night and I uploaded the demo project to GitHub, if you're interested probably best to catch the video first then go from there.

All the best in the meantime,

Also you could consider to enrol a Zend online course to kick off your PHP career. I knew they're offering 50% off at the moment.

Hi Jol, following on from Cody's comment, if you look at the event details for our meetup in November last year there is a comment with links to some good information and resources which will help you learn PHP. :-)

On another note, I think it will be worthwhile amalgamating that information and making it available through the meetup site etc. We can make it a working document which the group can contribute to.

Hi Jol and Shahzad. All skill levels are welcome to the SydPHP meetup. The topics being discussed more than likely not make sense to you but before/after the meetup you can talk to experienced developers. They will point you in the right direction.
