3D Printing tips and tricks

So far we've scanned some things and printed some things. As we have found out, 3D Printing is not without its challenges. Thanks to a large and growing worldwide 3D Printing community a lot of the challenges are being overcome. Whether it is problems with print curling, the quality of the finish or making the model printable there are Tips and Tricks which can help. In this meetup we'll hear some of those Tips and Tricks and all being well see some different 3D Printers in Action.

Looking forward to seeing you all again!

Try http://www.volumental... It is a browser based scanner which uses your Kinect.

Actually solved that one for me - you needed to install the CUDA library - Volumental looks interesting though =) ..

Boon sorry to here that you still are having problems

If this is the problem then I would replace the main IC (atmmega644)
the thermistor input would be happy to a bit over 5 volts (but maybe not much higher) - I would have expected the cpu to fail completely but maybe you where lucky - I would check the wiring to and from the thermistor with a multimeter this maybe the problem from my recollection of these printers the wiring is a rats nest.
It just could be a simple problem as the cpu could/should be in a socket but please figure out why you have/had this fault before your replace the cpu. Remember if you replace the cpu you will need to program it with operating system or nothing will work.

Hope this is of help to you
    Andrew

Hi All, after chatting with a few of you at the last meetup I've arranged for a group buy of printrbot products with Brook Drumm (printrbot.com). At this stage it's an even $400 AUD for the printrbot simple with the endstop upgrade delivered into Sydney. I can also arrange for any of the other larger kits and assembly if it sounds a little daunting. Get in touch with me by Thursday if you are interested.

It was great to meet you all.
This is truly an interesting time for this type of technology. It reminds me when I was involved with the early computer days of the Amiga 500 & Apple Macintosh. (I was only a youngster then)

Very interesting, especially Howard's Up Plus printer, so much quieter than the Makerbot. I have been printing for a little while but had not previously heard any of the tips presented.

Argh - double booked for that night. Shame - I have been working on redesigning my 3D printer to improve the performance of dual extrusion (which currently faces lots of oozing problems in consumer printers).

Hi All, has anyone bought a Chocolate 3D Printer? something similar to the Choc Creator http://chocedge.com/choc-creator-v1.php

    June 18, 2013

    • Ian W.

That looks very much like the chocolate 3D printer they have at the Powerhouse Museum.

Appreciate being part of this group. My company is bringing the Mcor Iris paper 3d printer to Australia in July. We are launching this printer and are encouraging Australian designers to have their work printed for free so we can showcase their talents and of course the ability of the Iris. If anyone on this forum would like to submit designs to be showcased and to have a copy for themselves please feel free to contact me. I would also like with permission and if interested to have this group come have a look at the iris at a special demo night which could be organised. This printer was invented by the MacCormack brothers both engineers who wanted to bring 3d printing to the masses. For more information please feel free to contact me or have a look at our website dgs3d.com.au
