SBG is dedicated to the great pastime of walking. We welcome experienced walkers looking to expand their horizons. We welcome all newcomers; for you an entirely new perspective on the world will open up! Many people join SBG to improve fitness and quickly become addicted to the spirit of the group. How better to keep that unwanted weight at bay!
Although we are over 5,000 members strong a typical SBG event is 20 people or less. The camaraderie and sense of collective achievement, engendered by our events, is just as important as racking up the kilometres and every bit as enjoyable as bearing close witness to the beauty of Sydney and its surrounds.
In a typical week, we may host 8 or more separate events including our ever popular summer evening exercise walks. All SBG walks are carefully planned and led by our volunteer team of event organisers and hosts. Just pick the event that best suits you!
So, join us for coffee and a relaxed 7 kilometres over three hours. Or get intense and belt out 50 kilometres in just 12 hours! Explore the magnificent Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Whip through a roll-call of Sydney’s iconic beaches. Conquer the Royal National Park in a day! Take a train two hours south for the stunning Kiama hike! And watch out for our special tours to other parts of Australia, and destinations overseas!
It is a condition of joining that you agree to the terms and conditions below.
Terms and conditions:
By joining Sydney Bushwalking Group hosted by Meetup and choosing to participate in our events, you are asserting that you understand the risks involved and that you are assuming responsibility for your own safety and wellbeing during any of our events.
By signing up for a Sydney Bushwalking Group event you agree that you have read and understood the terms below. If you join us for a bushwalk, camping trip or any other event, please understand that you are responsible for your own preparedness and wellbeing and will hold no one else liable in case of injury or other mishap.
Bushwalking and camping are inherently risky activities. The risks include but are not limited to changes in the weather, hazardous terrain, animal attacks, falls, falling objects, failure of critical equipment and injury from physical exertion. Travelling to a wilderness area involves additional risks such as medical assistance not being available. By participating you agree not to hold the organisers or fellow participants liable for any injury or damage to personal property as a consequence of these inherent risks.
Sydney Bushwalking Group is an amateur group with volunteer organisers. Bushwalking or camping with an amateur group rather than a professional guide involves additional risks. These include but are not limited to relying on other members for transportation, first aid or other assistance during an emergency, and general assistance during an event. By participating you agree not to hold other participants or the organisers liable for negligence, oversight or any other mistakes on their part.
By participating in Sydney Bushwalking Group's events you agree not to hold the organiser or any other participants responsible for any injuries, mishaps or any unforeseen situation that may occur on a Sydney Bushwalking Group event. You are responsible to research the event, including thoroughly reading the host's description of the event prior to attending, and for knowing your own capability to participate in the event and bring the proper gear.
Sydney Bushwalking Group does not provide liability insurance for the protection of individuals who may participate in any one of our events which are organised by one of our volunteer organisers.
If you decide to share a vehicle ride with organisers or other members of Sydney Bushwalking Group you do so at your own risk. These rides are not to be considered commercial services, but considered carpooling by friends.
By signing up to Sydney Bushwalking Group or one of its events you understand that you are attending all events at your own risk. Organisers of this group just organise the events and we bushwalk or camp together as a group of friends. There are no qualified outdoor instructors or guides on our events and you are therefore responsible for your own safety and wellbeing at all times.
New members must provide a recognizable photo of themselves and pay their annual membership fee of $10 before attending their first event. You will find instructions on how to pay by clicking on "Membership Dues" on left hand side of the home page. All current members must be a FINANCIAL 2016 member to take part in the events hosted by the Sydney Bushwalking Group.
By RSVPing to any event hosted by the Sydney Bushwalking Group, you or any guests you invite agree to comply with the Terms and Conditions outlined above.
