First Sydney MongoDB User Group meetup

The first Sydney MongoDB User Group meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 25th.  Please RSVP early if you plan to attend so we have a better idea of expected attendance and topics of interest.

Agenda

  • assemble from 6.30pm
  • 7pm: "NoSQL, Distributed Databases and MongoDB" presentation from Bryan Reinero, 10gen developer (visiting from Palo Alto)
  • Q & A session

Should be a great opportunity to meet other MongoDB users as well as some of the new 10gen Australia support team ;-).

Topics

Bryan Reinero (10gen): NoSQL, Distributed Databases and MongoDB

The arrival of non-relational, distributed databases are changing the way we think about and design our data tiers. MongoDB is an open source, document-oriented database, capable of large scale, high availability data access and failure recovery. MongoDB's non-relational data model offers many advantages, including greater agility through flexible schemas and easier horizontal scalability. We'll explore the benefits and challenges of NoSQL data stores with examples in MongoDB, and discuss strategies for data consistency, query performance and infrastructure.

Great bunch of people, there was a surprising depth of MongoDB knowledge in the room considering only 3 people were using it in production. 10gen were very hospitable hosts! Looking forward to the next one!
