Sydney MongoDB Meetup - 26 Aug, 2014

  • Aug 26, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • MongoDB Australia

  • Assemble from 6pm
  • Talks from 6.30pm:
    • Pentaho Business Analytics (Zachary Zeus, Managing Director @ BizCubed)
    • Q & A / Ask the Experts

We'll be providing food & drink based on RVSPs, so please let us know if you plan to attend (or if your plans change).

  • Pentaho Business Analytics (Zachary Zeus, Managing Director @ BizCubed)

Zach will present a quick overview of analytics on MongoDB - then will do a deep dive on the technical capabilities of direct analytics on MongoDB.  This deep dive will include technical details on how to do analytics directly on MongoDB collections.

The combination of Pentaho Business Analytics and MongoDB helps business users and developers to:

  • Increase Data Value – With Pentaho, MongoDB data can be accessed, blended, visualized and reported in combination with any other data source for increased insight and operational analytics.
  • Reduce Complexity Reporting on data stored in MongoDB is simplified, increasing developer productivity with Pentaho’s automatic document sampling, drag and drop interface and schema generation.
  • Accelerate Data Access and Querying– With no impact on throughput, this integration builds on the features and capabilities in MongoDB, such as the Aggregation Framework, Replication and Tag Sets.

Hi MongoDBers, may I request a discussion of query paging (skip-limit, ranged, etc.)?

    August 17, 2014

    • Stennie

Sure, bring along your questions! FWIW, a range-based query is generally going to be more efficient than a query with skip (which still has to read over the entries you are skipping), however skip & limit can be easier to implement. Ranges work well for previous/next pagination, whereas skip + limit are better suited for jumping directly to page # of n.

I hope there is a meet up hold at day time and in city or close to Hunters Hill.

    August 22, 2014

    • Stennie

Our regular meetups are in the city - just a short walk from Central station.

If there is interest in having a catchup elsewhere (or during the day), I'm also open to a coworking day or lunch time talk if there's a suitable host venue. Please get in touch with me if you have suggestions/requests. Thanks :).
