Two things:
(1) Monthly tango dance.. Saturday December 17
(2) Tango class and practice every Sunday (both annc. below)..
TANGO OASIS
Atlanta’s only Alternative music milonga (tango dance).
THIRD SATURDAY's $10
8 PM CLASS ~ FREE PARKING
www.tangooasis.com (for more info).
Tango dance and music are always evolving. Since modern
tango builds on the old as it evolves, the music we play,
and the dance we teach are likewise both traditional, and Modern
(and is both open and close embrace)..
Modern also means any gender can lead or follow by choice,
rather than by gender dictation. Switching roles is fun, and also
makes us better dancers. Everyone is welcome at Oasis tango..
EXAMPLE of modern tango dance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LLuB-wP1cU
FOOD:
I suggest you show up early and try one of the restaurants on the square.. There are probably 20-30 restaurants in walking distance, but I suggest you drive around the square to see all the restaurants, and find the parking decks..
I WILL ADD A LIST OF GOOD AND CHEAP RESTAURANTS, and post at the end of this email.. When you find a good and cheap restaurant in the Decatur area, let me know and I will add it to the list..
CLASS:
Practice on your own, or join our class. This is an exciting opportunity to learn modern tango technique. The secret to taking your dance to the next level is refining the tango fundamentals. So, while beginners learn the basics for the first time, more advanced dancers refine the basics (while welcoming new dancers). Musicality is an integral part of our classes.. Kwang and Brian’s ADVANCED class is going very well. Their style strongly resembles the style I have seen in Chicago and New Jersey with world famous teachers like Frenanda and Giullermo, and Nancy and Damian who teach all over the world. Rotating with the class is always optional.
LOCATION:
See map to get to Decatur.. Once there the main square is easy to find. The dance studio entrance is on the square (MAP at www.tangooasis.com has a red thing marking the spot.. click to magnify)..
PARK FREE
Drive around the square (keep making right, or left turns).. If you use the park deck on trinity, walk out on the opposite side from where you drove in (this is swanson Way).. If you use the deck on Swanson, walk out the same side you drove in on.. I think the better park deck is on Swanson way (if the gate is up, its free).
AFTER YOU PARK:
Both park decks are on Swanson Way. Walk toward MARTA (go straight, no turns). Several Dancers Core dance studio will be down about a block on your right.
RESTAURANTS:
RESTAURANTS:
RESTAURANTS:
RAGING BURITO: Its close to the dance studio.. I havent eaten there but its always crowded, and the prices look good..

CLASS::
3 PM FUNDAMENTALS for All levels
4 PM INT/ADV CLASS with Kwang and Brian.
OPEN PRACTICE FLOOR:
3-6 PM Open dance floor (or join the class).
ABOUT THE CLASS:
The cool tango moves depend on basic technique.. So, for more advanced dancers, the secret to taking your dance to the next level is refining these tango fundamentals.. So, while beginners learn the basics for the first time, more advanced dancers refine the basics..
ADVANCED CLASS:
Kwang and Brian’s ADVANCED class is going very well.. Their style strongly resembles the style and level of the classes I have taken in Chicago and New Jersey with world famous teachers like Frenanda and Giullermo, and Nancy and Damian.. This is an exciting opportunity to expose yourself to a modern style that is strongly rooted in traditional tango technique..
MUSICALITY:
The first hour also includes a musicality class.. We leave you with easy tools to help you figure out any new music yourself (including waltz and modern music)..
NO SERIES:
Rather than the usual 6 week series,
the 2 hours are progressive instead.
CHANGING LEAD/FOLLOW ROLES
is always OK as a modern idea,
just for fun,
or to improve your dancing.
Rotating with the class is always optional, but recommended. We teach open embrace style (same as close but with air). We play mixed tango music (both kinds; old and new).
OASIS: Class and Practice
Every Sunday $12
www.tangooasis.com
TANGO OASIS EXISTS BECAUSE:
A handful of Tango dancers want more variety in tango music (as many other large cities already do). The Atlanta tango community strongly prefers traditional music (most play 100 percent traditional music only).. We find we are getting people who are new to tango (or previously dropped out because there was no variety in the music).. The people who show up love dancing and love the music, so its turning into something wonderful. The direction this is heading, soon we will have a new flavor of tango in the Atlanta area.. Thanks for making it happen..
MUSIC:
We play mixed tango music.. Meaning traditional as well as modern.. During the dance we might mix some salsa, swing or blues (and some of these are tango danceable)..
HAVE FUN & MEET PEOPLE: Its easy to get addicted to tango. Then you will meet other addicted people while having fun. It is always OK to lead or follow at oasis, no matter what your gender, because its fun and it makes us better dancers. The dance floor is large enough to practice without being crowded out.
LOCATION:
Concourse Athletic Club..
This is one of the most beautiful venues I have seen..
I N F O R M A T I O N :
Use the contact link on the tangooasis DOT com website, or the meetup link to contact us (spammers make it so we cannot put an email addrs here)..
Closed toe shoes are recommended for the follower. Everyone's shoes should allow you to pivot (IE: shoes should not stick to the floor; actual leather is the best).
