Greetings TC Campers!
The response to TC Camp was overwhelmingly positive. Even the toughest critics in the bay area thought it was an amazing event. (And if any of you have been to an STC meeting in the local SF Bay area, you know what I mean!) In fact, the last time I went to a local STC meeting, they asked when we'll be putting it on again, and if there was a way to do it more often.
Since January, we've been trying to figure that exact thing out. The big TC Camp in-person event is tough to pull off more than once a year. But we think we've pulled off a nice compromise...
We've come up with TC Dojo.
TC Dojo is a new twist on the web session. It's focused, small learning opportunities. Why did we call it a dojo? A dojo (道場 dōjō?) is a Japanese term which literally means "place of the way". Typically, it is the place for learning and practicing a martial art form. We decided to borrow this theme and apply it to the practice and learning for the art of Technical Communication.
There are two TC Camp-inspired ways to learn at the Dojo: Open Sessions and Master Series. (And, like a real dojo, there are always Private Sessions, but we're not going to talk about those here.)
Like TC Camp, Open Sessions are free and open to the public. These sessions will be posted to the TC Camp meetup group as a kind of interval TC Camp sessions. Meeting topics will be voted upon by attendees and we'll find the speakers to host the sessions that you voted on.
The Master Series meets the other half of the TC Camp spirit. They're facilitated, small-group, peer-led discussions. There is a fee to join the Master Series. We feel that this will encourage the same people to attend sessions regularly, thus creating an environment of trust and confidentiality.
So, while you're waiting for the next TC Camp to come around in January (we're working on it!), join us at the TC Dojo. I'll post the Open Session announcements as meetup events. Please join us and don't forget to vote on topics! The current voting form is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/V5ZFNVK
