TC UX Meetup-July

  • July 8, 2013 · 6:00 PM

The UX job market continues to expand, but most jobs require quite a bit of experience. So how did we get new people into the field? Mentoring and apprenticeship programs are growing in the Twin Cities to help solve this challenge. If you've ever considered becoming a mentor but aren't sure what it would take, or if you're interested in entering an apprenticeship but don't know what to expect, join us at Honey for a lively discussion on the techniques, challenges, and opportunities involved.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Honey has great local craft beers and they're graciously offering us $4 taps and $5 glasses of wine.

There are plenty of meters in the area and a parking lot directly behind Gingerhop. It is mostly paid parking, but should only cost a couple dollars for the duration of the meetup. I will take free parking into account for future meetups.

I was unable to attend the meeting but was wondering if someone could post some of the information on possible apprenticeship programs? I am very interested in that and will try to attend the August meeting, thanks!

Thank you all who shared your experience in transitioning to a UX Design job last night. Could any of the ladies who last night talked about checking out the service hackathons and finding someone to help with their UX side project, please suggest a few links or concrete examples as to where one could find these connections? Thank you. If any of the group members who would like to transition to such a role would like to start a small dedicated learning club, please let me know. We can teach each other the areas we need to expand on in order to get our "T" in place. For example, I have a good handle on usability principles and user research of the information design but I need to improve my graphic design background so I contribute what I know and will learn from others things I don’t. This way we need to find only one mentor for our group and occasionally check in to see if we are progressing in the right direction. Just a thought.

    Thank you,

Hi Haleh, I'm glad that you enjoyed the event! The hacking events are a bit ad hoc, but I usually see them posted at Open Twin Cities eventually (http://www.opentwinci...) EdJam has it's own website at www.edjam.org
