Fifth Annual TCM FILM FESTIVAL in Hollywood

The 5th Annual TCM FILM FESTIVAL will be again taking place in downtown Hollywood at the TCL Chinese Theatre, the TCL Chinese 6 theatres and the Egyptian Theatre. The festival kicks off on Thursday evening April 10 and continues with simultaneous showings of different movies over the course of the next 3 1/2 fabulous days.

Most of our members are already major TCM viewers and frequently visit the TCM website--so we won't go into further details here, but you can get the lastest festival updates at the TCM website at the below weblink.

http://filmfestival.tcm.com/programs/

I know many of you are going, but often do not RSVP to our events until the last minute--but from what I can tell we will have at least 12-15 members attending with passes this year (last year we had about 8 who bought passes, but many other who attended individual screenings (which passes are available--if available--about 2 hours before such screening times.

Hope to see many of you there!

IMPORTANT UPDATE:  We just became aware that the Classic Passes are no longer available, but Palace & Matinee passes are still available as well as some tickets to individual screenings (in the larger theatre venues subject to availability).

This year's festival was another triumph, great movies, wonderful in-person guests and friendly classic movie buffs from all over the U.S. Plus live appearances by Robert Osborne, Ben M and other special guests.

For the festival's Sunday night CLOSING NIGHT PARTY at 9pm, from past year's experience the recommendation is to do your best to arrive there by 8:30pm to help set aside a sitting space for our group. FYI--Robert Osborne usually shows up for a short time for the first 15-20 minutes of the party to sign autographs and take pictures, but then leaves soon after that.

Sat @ 2pm at Club TCM holding primo round booth on south side of room for 2:30pm Q & A with legendary film editor Thelma Schoonmaker that can seat 4-5 others

Have you seen the TBAs? They have scheduled the first two. The first, in the 9 am slot, is National Velvet, envisioned as a tribute to Mickey Rooney. They are already suggesting that it will run overtime. Margaret O'Brien and Eddie Muller are the discussants. The second slot, noonish, will be Fifth Avenue Girl. Both are in the Chinese #4 -- the smallest house, with only 177 seats. I think that National Velvet will probably sell out.

do they take you around to movie locations in LA?

    April 11, 2014

    • Jono

Yes the special bus tour was 3 hours long! It included lots of sites between Hollywood and downtown L.A. including off the bus stops at the historic Bradbury Building and Union Station. The tour included a mix of classic movie locations and some popular more modern day ones as well.

So glad you got to go. Can't wait to hear what you have to say about. We'll review each others notes. ;)

was able to unexpectedly attend special 3 hour TCM film location bus tour this morn after my intended screening sold out by being ON STANDBY--there were a lot of reservation no-shows--so if you're interested I highly recommend it

The classic movie angels must have been shining down upon me, so I will thankfully be attending the festival with a Classic Pass. I will soon be adding a new, early evening potluck gathering at my home on SUNDAY, APRIL 6 so those attending the fest can compare schedule notes about the movies they intend to see. Supposedly the final schedule will be posted online on the festival's webpage about one week before the fest.

    March 12, 2014

  • Jono

Abby is right, many of the films titles are now listed online, but actual theatre locations and screening times are not usually announced until close to the start date of the festival--presumably due to guest availability, anticipated public interest, etc.

    Got my press pass today!

    1 · March 11, 2014

  • Abby

Hi guys, I can answer the "schedule" question. It is unlikely to be posted long before the festival begins. Check back one to two weeks before the festival and there will be a complex schedule of films and events.

    March 10, 2014

  • Carrie S.

I just got my press pass! Yeah!

    March 10, 2014
