Jono's TALAVERA HOUSE
This will our first annual holiday party. I had hoped to actually host it around an existing TCM network holiday movie screening time period--so we could literally be sharing a true TCM experience, but their December schedule primarily has holiday movies clustered together at less convenient times and literally on Xmas day. (This year they do not seem to be showing as many holiday classics as prior years, but I am suspecting they are limited to what can be licensing and availability considerations).
But we will celebrate both TCM and classic movies nonetheless. As many of you know, Jono's cottage-style bungalow home is cute, but cozy, so some of the party might need to spill out into the garden (so dress accordingly--you may wish to bring a sweater or jacket), but it will be nice to mingle with many of you--since we do not have this luxury at many of our screening events. I realize this party is only 1 1/2 weeks before Christmas, but I intentionally scheduled it on a Sunday late afternoon--so it might be integrated around shopping errands or other plans. I also picked a time when street parking in my neighborhood is more plentiful.
IMPORTANT REQUEST: In this event's comment section, can each attending member please mention what 6-person sharing food item--appetizer, main entree, side dish or dessert that they are planning to bring? Then PLEASE REVIEW member postings of what food items they are planning to bring on our DISCUSSION page then LIST/ADD YOUR OWN PLANNED FOOD ITEM TO IT and bring a large enough dish to share with 5 others (preferably homemade or from a supermarket deli). Please also bring whatever your favorite beverage may be (and a little extra to share would be appreciated).
FYI--you may come and go whenever you like, but we will eat, drink and socialize from around 4-5:15pm then watch A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS (25 minutes) followed at about 6pm by CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT with Barbara Stanwyck who comically portrays a "Martha Stewart" type character(1 hr 45 minutes). I will bring out every chair and folding chair that I own, but if we get a big crowd some guest may need to sit on the oriental rug in my living room. I am intentionally not restricting RSVPs since this is such a special group gathering. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
For those of you who have not seen CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT here is its synopsis...journalist Elizabeth Lane (Stanwyck) is one of the country's most famous food writers. In her columns, she describes herself as a hard working farm woman, taking care of her children and being an excellent cook. But this is all lies. In reality she is an unmarried New Yorker who can't even boil an egg. The recipes come from her good friend Felix. The owner of the magazine she works for has decided that a heroic sailor will spend his Christmas on *her* farm. Miss Lane knows that her career is over if the truth comes out, but what can she do?
