The TCM Classic Movie Fan Club is targeted to Southern California viewers of the Turner Classic Movie network (though we are a fan group and NOT directly affiliated with TCM or its parent company Time Warner). Members of our free, non-commercial group will have the chance to attend classic movie outings and see these films on the big screen in an audience setting with other like-minded TCM viewers and classic movie buffs throughout Southern California (and especially in the greater Los Angeles area) including the annual TCM Hollywood Film Festival and venues such as the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian & AERO Theatres, the Arclight Cinema complex in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino's New Beverly Cinema, UCLA Film Archive screenings at the Billy Wilder Theatre of the Hammer Museum, occasional tributes at the Motion Picture Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theatre, LACMA's film programs at the Bing Theatre, periodic Disney classic screenings at the El Capitan Theatre, summertime outdoor Hollywood Bowl movie screenings, the Los Angeles Conservancy's annual Last Remaining Seats series as well as occasional TCM movie viewing dinners at member-hosted locations and other events.
In order to foster more group participation and outings, this Meetup Group's activities will be scheduled when either Jono the organizer posts them OR ON A UNIQUE "SELF SERVE" BASIS WHEN ONE MEMBER SUGGESTS/RECOMMENDS AN EVENT THEN AT LEAST 3 MEMBERS EXPRESS INTEREST IN ATTENDING. Our group's definition of a classic movie generally means a movie produced before the mid 1970's and also whether or not it could be a title generally shown on TCM. (So kindly refrain from posting events for a first run, modern day or recent films--unless it a documentary about some facet of movie history--because there are other Meetup groups that are more appropriate for recent films).
The TCM Classic Movie Fan Clubis open to movie buffs 21 years of age and older who are fans of TCM, its wonderful film programing & on-air hosts, reside in Southern California and who are into various genres of classic movies including film noir, musicals, sci-fi/horror flicks, silent movies and more. Though this group's organizer JONO happens to be a Gay professional, our group is open to people from all backgrounds and sexual preferences--the main consideration is an appreciation of TCM, classic movies and the ability to socialize with other like minded viewers and friendly classic film aficionados. If you have any type of physical handicap, disability or have special needs, please contact the organizer in advance with your contact info to ensure an event location may have proper accessibility.
New Attendance Policy as of 7/8/12: If YOU R.S.V.P. to more than 2 group events and are "no show" without the courtesy of updating your online R.S.V.P. status beforehand or at least sending a polite, follow up e-mail to our group's organizer explaining the circumstances, then your membership shall unfortunately be terminated. A lot of time and energy goes into planning our events and we will not tolerate inconsiderate people. Please honor your word whenever you R.S.V.P. (explained emergencies will of course be excepted).
[Note from this group's organizer: Many years ago, I actually worked side-by-side with Robert Osborne for one year while Robert was a writer for the Hollywood Reporter entertainment newspaper. In that year's time I got to know him as a wonderful person, his love of movies and how Lucille Ball helped launch his start in show business. I worshiped the ground Robert walks on way before he became host for Turner Classic Movies. I later chatted with him a time or two by phone from his home in New York when I used to produce special classic movie events at the legendary Orpheum Theatre in downtown L.A.--including the annual Spook-a-thon Film Festival.Robert still remembers me though, is very gracious and we have caught up a bit whenever he has been in town at TCM's film festivals--JONO].
