  • This location is shown only to members

Theme: Innovation

Websters Dictionary defines innovation as:

1. an introduction of something new

2. a new idea, method, or device

1. Professor William J. Cunningham - Former US Foreign Diplomat to the United Nations during the Nixon and Ford presidency and reported mainly to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. His specialty and assignments were mainly geared towards Chinese Affairs. Prof. Cunningham also served as the Chairman of the Houston World Affairs Council from 1993-1995.

2. Roland von Kurnatowski III - currently serves as the Director of Education for TX/RX Labs, Houston's non-profit hackerspace. He is also the founder of a small software consultancy focused on data visualization. He holds degrees in Computer Science and Sociology from Rice University and spent many years in the doldrums doing traditional software development prior to striking out on his own and working at TX/RX Labs. Currently he is hacking away at a number of open source micro controller projects and has dreams of refurbishing the labs electron microscope.

3. Johnny Carrabba - A nationally recognized entrepreneur/restauranteur/philanthropist, Johnny's restaurant Carrabbas has been a staple in Houston since 1986. Johnny hosted a cooking show with his uncle Damian Mandola on PBS well before the Food Network was popular. Johnny's passion doesn't lie only in good cooking, Johnny helped establish and is still an active board member of an organization called The Sunshine Kids, which provides cancer stricken kids with extraordinary activities at no cost.

Meeting will start promptly at 3 pm

*There will be a Q&A after each session. Please submit your questions to me first, and I will ask the questions to the speakers directly after their speech.

Enjoyed the speaking event greatly, glad I was finally able to attend. May I perhaps suggest scheduling a Carrabbas meet up to use those gift cards?

Hey Caleb Johnny was going to give me the gift certificate and I was going to hand it to you all at the next meeting, but this sounds like a great idea. I'll throw out an email and see who wants to go!

I have joined this group in the early days and wanted to attend the Second Sunday events, but never got a chance to attend it. Past Sunday was my first event and I must say it was wonderful to hear 2 people from disparate fields who take pride and joy in what they are doing and it is not just a 'job' for them but a passion. Thank you Judy for putting the events together and being a wonderful organizer.

Thank you Judy for putting the hard work in for us to enjoy these speakers. Without you, we may have never known that Carrabbas was brought up through great values and ethics and goes beyond the typical chain restaurants. And we would still be using the verb "tool" to those we don't like instead of using it for straight-A-go-getters, as Roland described. For all that you do, thank you!

Judy: any special notes or parking and which building we will be meeting in?

I think I'm overly ambitious to think of coming after the marathon, so changing my RSVP to no along with my folks. Thanks for making space for us, but I think others may get more out of it while I recover. :)

Judy-I'm so sad I have to give up my spot for this one. I just found out I'll be traveling for work. I'll be there in spirit.

Okay, this line up definitely matches my taste more. Judy, you have really out done yourself this time!

I'm very excited about this event! The facility will only hold 40 guests, unfortunately this is not a standing room only thing, it's a fire marshall thing...
