The Totally Unconventional Book Club: September Meeting

The book club for professionals who don’t have a heck of a lot time to read, but love to learn and get new perspectives. Here’s what makes this book club different: rather than everyone reading the same book and then getting together to discuss it, one person reads a book and presents a summary to the group, then we have an open discussion on the topic. So there’s some reading involved, but only if you’ve read a book, found it worthy of summarizing for the group, and volunteer to do so. Our general category of book for this club is Business, but we mean that in the broadest sense of the word.

Our September meeting will feature Rework by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson and will be presented by TedX ABQ member Ellen Gallegos.

Bring your own lunch (drinks are provided by Convivium) and your computer (everyone is invited to stay and cowork after the event).

I think it would be awesome to have an unconventional book club meeting on a Saturday from time to time

I'm so sad I missed this! Is this a monthly meetup at Convivium?

Hi Belinda! Yes, this is a monthly meetup at Convivium. Our next one is Oct. 23rd, but I don't have details yet. We'll get it posted as soon as we know. Thanks!

Thanks for having me today. It was a blast to share a favorite TED Talk and business book. If you'd like to read the book, look for Rework

If you'd like to share the video 'Why work doesn't happen at work'

I look forward to seeing you all again. Thanks for being a GREAT audience!

I've been retired for 24 years. It was very interesting to hear about contemporary issues in the workplace.

This particular book club is only over lunch, Angie. This group used to have a more traditional book club (where everybody reads the book ahead of time) that met in the evening, and I'm guessing if someone wanted to take on organizing that, it would be welcomed!

Are these always during lunch or do they happen in the evening as well?

This will be my first meeting. I'm looking forward to it!

    Dear Jason,
I think this would have to be a systemic comittment on the part of the organization. It should be given consideration by the board and policy would have to be formulated. As a past community orgnaizer I have a pretty good idea about how to do this but as a Santa Fe Resident who is still working I couldn't do it. I could help formulate strategies.
ASAP I wil be writing to Tim. Thanks for your note.

Hmm..maybe an ad in the Alibi? Word of mouth perhaps, but that doesnt go far, IMO.

How can we attract more people of color in our multi-cultural state to our events?
