Sheffield Botanical Gardens + optional short walk before

UPDATE: Due to restrictions on parking in the area around the gardens, there will now be an optional short walk (around 25-30 minutes) -enabling us to start in an area with plenty of roadside parking which is not restricted.

Pre-gardens visit walk:

The walk will start from Riverdale Road, and go through Endcliffe Wood and Encliffe Park, with a short walk along Ecclesall Road and up Botanical Road to the gardens.

Anyone not joining the walk, please meet up with us at the BOTANICAL ROAD entrance to the gardens at 11.30am (see the map- link below)

If you do not plan to do the walk, you may find some parking further east along Clarkehouse Road- alternatively try the Francis Newton pub - the car park requires payment, but this is refunded if you spend money in the pub (thanks Glenys for this tip)

The address of the gardens is Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Clarkehouse Road, Sheffield S10 2LN

The Botanical Gardens

Sheffield's Botanical Gardens opened in 1836 and were fully restored at a cost of almost £6.7m in the early 2000s. The gardens include 15 distinct areas and a number of fine historic listed buildings.

We can spend time here at leisure exploring this 19 acre site. Better still admission is completely free!

So sorry for not attending, but literally minutes before setting off,we had a major family crisis. Luckily we eventually got it sorted, and hope you will allow me to attend a future event.

Thanks Richard for arranging this & finding out about parking etc. Was a good day and lovely to meet the few who turned up. Shame the others didn't have the common courtesy to update their RSVP

Not to worry, Rajdeep, but please do check for emails from event organisers about events- I have sent you an email via your profile with advice on adjusting your Meetup email settings and also exporting events to a calendar service like Google or Outlook.

I will do check from now on, as this event was more easier for me to get to but will look out for other upcoming events that I can get to.

Thanks to Jane, Monica, Jim and Julia for attending- much better weather than expected, nice coffee shop and magnificently restored gardens. A pleasant walk through the park too. It's a shame so many people did not show up.

The visit and walk will go ahead as planned. Showers are forecast so please fetch waterproofs. The gardens have some indoor areas (pavilions) so we can go inside if the rain is heavy.

I'm a maybe for any dates that far in advance ;)

      December 10, 2013

    • Richard

Fair enough, Monica- see what the situation is nearer the time! The consensus seems to be that 10 May would suit most people, so I will change the date to be (definitely) that.
