For the first time in history, the Connecticut Chapter of the Usability Professionals Association (CT UPA) is delighted to be taking part in this year's celebration of World Usability Day by hosting what promises to be a most interesting and lively panel discussion with leading usability experts, as well as "communication experts" from mass media and industry. If you are unfamiliar with World Usability Day ( it would be worth your time to read about this worldwide event. Our panelists for this exciting event are: * Dr. Ruth Frank - Manager of Human Factors at Pitney Bowes in Shelton CT. * Mr. Joe Furey - Radio and TV Personality; WTIC Fox Channel 61 Meterologist * Mr. Gilbert Brenson-Lazan - Executive President of Amauta International * (full panelist bios can be found here) On Thursday, November 11, 2010, Open Solutions will host the Connecticut Chapter of the Usability Professionals Association's first-ever World Usability Day (WUD) event. The theme of this year's World Usability Day is "Communication." Some very interesting background surrounding WUD can be found on the UPA World Usability Day ( web site, and it is probably worth a quick read. Our panel discussion will center of the incredibly broad topic of 'communication', and exactly what that means to usability professionals, communications professionals, and ordinary everyday citizens such as ourselves. Possible questions and topics may include: "Exactly what is "communication" in this second decade of the 21st century?" "Have traditional communications been replaced by social networking and blogging?" "Is there perhaps a glut of information and a lack of communication?" "What is the population of Arnegard North Dakota?" (just checking to see if anybody actually read this far.) Questions will be submitted to the panelists to draw out their views on critical aspects of communications, but, more importantly, plenty of time will be allotted for questions from the audience to elicit expert views on communication issues that are important to you. Come prepared with your questions! Head on over to for all the details! LOCATION & TIME The meeting will be held at Open Solutions in Glastonbury (455 Winding Brook Drive, Glastonbury, CT 06033). As usual, the meeting will start at 6:30 PM with some light refreshments and a chance to network with old and new colleagues, as well as our panelists. REGISTRATION Please do not register/RSVP on this page!! Go to to register. PLEASE NOTE: In-person seating is limited to 35 people so register now! We will be broadcasting the event via the Internet if you are not able to come to Open Solutions or if you do not get a seat. When we reach the seating capacity, we will start a waitlist - remote broadcast details will be sent to those on the waitlist.

Very good attendance and very good panel of speakers as well. The audience really got into the discussion and was able to provide some of their own insight and experiences.
