“A Red Rock Mountain Summit Adventure and a Spectacular Panoramic Wilderness Journey”
Wilson Mountain, standing tall at approximately 7,122 feet in elevation is Sedona’s highest summit and the Wilson Mountain Trail described as the most strenuous hike in all the Sedona area! Climbing steeply up approximately 2800 feet in elevation, the Wilson Mountain Summit hike not only offers a great fitness and training workout, but also THE most spectacular and panoramic scenery of all Sedona and the surrounding Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness area including Wilson Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon & Humphrey’s Peak, Sterling Canyon and Secret Mountain. With its many magnificent viewpoints afforded throughout this challenging journey, it is without a doubt that this incredible adventure will keep you breathless and spellbound each and every step of the way!
So if you’re up for a very rigorous and challenging hiking journey that’s a great fitness/training workout with extraordinary scenery all along the way…. .then please do come out and join us for a really fun day and an amazing adventure…..to the top of Wilson Mountain in Sedona’s gorgeous Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness!
Total Estimated Hiking Distance: Approximately 11.8 miles RT
Total Hiking Time: Average 5-7 hours
Total Elevation Gain: Approximately 2800 feet
Pictures will be highly encouraged along the journey. But we will need to remain cognizant of the time to ensure a safe group return within a reasonable round trip hiking time.
We will take a short break for snacks and pictures and regroup up at the summit.
Please plan to bring at least 2-3 liters of water, plenty of protein, carbs and snacks are recommended.
Air temps may be a bit chilly in the am so plan to dress in layers: Have a warm jacket and gloves. Also for throughout the day, sun screen, hats and protective clothing are recommended.
You do NOT need a 4WD or HCV vehicle for this hike.
Parking will be very limited at the trailhead so plan to car pool with other club members. Car pools can be arranged on meet up prior to the event or at the meet up location the morning of.
Please note: As Eric has previously stated, there has never been anyone left behind before in this club so please do NOT worry if you do not have a car pool arranged prior to the day of the event.
A Red Rock Day Visitor Pass IS required and can be purchased for $5 online or at the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center or any at kiosk. Please note that for the duration of the Government Shutdown only, a Red Rock Day Visitor Pass will NOT be required.
There will NOT be a restroom facility available at the trailhead. Please note that for the duration of the Government Shutdown only, that although Forest Service trails will be open for use, all trailhead restrooms will closed and NOT be available.
We will plan on getting together for lunch after the hike. A place for great home made Mexican food, excellent service and reasonable prices is Maria’s Restaurant and Cantina. It’s conveniently located just south of town on Hwy 179, thus has less crowds and makes for a great place to stop and get a quick bite to eat on the way back to Phoenix.
