About the play

When Colin loses his fiancée, his married friends invite him round for comfort over tea and sandwiches. As the tea starts to pour, it’s clear that trouble is brewing with a wickedly funny blend of jealousy, infidelity and barely concealed loathing. Tension starts to boil and maybe Colin isn’t the one who needs help. With friends like these, who needs enemies?

Directed by the critically-acclaimed Jeremy Herrin.

Absent Friends stars an astonishing cast of award-winning comedy talent from the worlds of stage, tv and film: David Armand (The Armstrong and Miller Show, ‘Torn’ Youtube Sensation), ElizabethBerrington (In Bruges, Waterloo Road, Lapland, The Office), Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Season’s Greetings, WBleak Old Shop of Stuff), Steffan Rhodri (Gavin and Stacey), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen, Betty Blue Eyes, Pyschoville) and Kara Tointon(Pygmalion, EastEnders, Strictly Come Dancing Winner 2010).

This was a real trip down memory lane. The living room cabinet, shelve units in the hallway, the floaty dresses and platforms, the dramas. I had them all ... and yes the sandwiches : ) Fortunately, or not, we can simply walk away from it all now. I'm off to find some fluffy white bread.

The set and costumes were excellent - immediately transporting you back to the 70's. It was a black comedy ie a witty version of Abigails Party. A couple of parts stood out particularly 'kindly' Colin and 'mad' Marge. Some found it hysterically funny, I did fine parts amusing but really I think it re-iterated how depressing the 70's were, particularly for women!
