You will learn about grafting apple and other fruit trees.

You also get to see a local back yard nursery (yes, you can buy stuff) and get ideas how to propagate a bunch of stuff in a smallish space.

You will be able to buy apple rootstock at cost (around $ 3.00)

If we have time, we will start a bunch of nitrogen fixers and talk about the importance of these plants….

This month meeting is a week only since we will be at the Voices conference on the 3rd Sunday. Hope to see you at voices!

Meeting are the 3rd Sunday of the month starting at 3pm. We will present and practice different propagation techniques throughout the year, including grafting, air layering, starting plants from seed, cuttings and so forth. More details about each meeting are announced closer to the date.
We always like to share refreshments, so, bring what you got. Donations are highly appreciated to cover cost of materials we purchase, such as seeds, potting soil, printing of handouts and so forth.

We did not talk too much about caring for your new grafts: Watch for any growth below the graft, and in general, take it off so new growth is directed to the buds of the new graft. If the grafted buds pop too quickly, then it may not have joined with the rootstock yet, and can fizzle. Keep them in a shady area for at least a few months or until about a foot of new growth is there with leaves. Take the green tape off once you have about a foot of growth, but don't rush it! If you have questions, come on out to our CRFG Meetings the 4th Wednesday of each month and ask our members for guidance. I was pleased with the general courtesy everyone had towards each other and my yard. One person left a grey plastic water bottle (please claim it). Thanks to whoever left us some girl scout cookies! Glad to have had a successful event. We will order more rootstocks next year, so please join CRFG and join in the fun!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
