Wine, both red and white, will be provided during the sail as well as water and cheese and crackers.

Meet for Optional Picnic lunch at noon.

BYOfood and drink and eat on picnic table before we go. Bring something to drink for the sail.

BYOBeer/Tea/Water, etc.

It's summer and time to go SAILING!

Let's sail away the afternoon in the Chesapeake bay on a 37' Yacht.

This place is only an hour away and easy to find on this side of the bay bridge (495 to 50 to 665 to Solomon's road and you are there!)!

Like good sailors, we'll drink as we cruise around the bay observing the beautiful scenery; waters of the bay, birds, beach, fish....

The trip only includes the sailing, so bring your favorite beer or white wine and something to munch on like potato chips/ pretzels (homemade? humus, salsas, dips) or cheese and crackers. We'll coordinate these efforts better when we know who is coming.

Don't need to bring much of anything because it is after lunch (maybe a picnic on the table by the docks?) and before our wonderful dinner. I will be there early having a sandwich or something on the picnic table by the docks around noon.

I will try to get an equal number of men and women (at least I'm hiring a Captain who is a man...I hope. The one above is not the guy, but I can dream can't I?)

Did I spot a MAN on that boat?

Below is an example of the interior or 'quarters' of the yacht, but they are all different.

So, if we get a blue one or one that looks different, please don't ask me why.

Shoes are important!

DO NOT WEAR slick bottomed shoes, black/dark bottom/sides or high heels or even regular shoes, because they will not allow you on the boat. They make scuff marks that are hard to remove and it is dangerous for you to walk around, you will slip off the boat! It goes sideways a lot (>45' angle).

What not to bring if you want to go!: Your dog, child, mother-in-law or cigarettes. LOL

No smoking is allowed on the boat (wear a patch or chew Nicorette gum).

What to wear: Comfortable loose clothing (shorts & T-shirt; lightweight clothes... Windbreaker?), hat, sunglasses and sneakers or rubber-soled shoes (NOT BLACK).

What to bring: Something hydrating to drink like water/tea (PLASTIC bottles) and/or something dehydrating to drink like beer (CANS only with sleeves) or wine (BOXES or plastic bottles only, Sutter Home brand has little plastic bottles) and use plastic cups.

If we so choose, we can go to a restaurant for some good grub after our voyage.

(I so choose!)

The YellowFin Steak and Fish House

(Zagat 23/30)

Dinners from $12-$42 (Burgers to Lobsters)

Burgers, salads, fish, crabs, lobster, steak (so the men will come)...yummy!

Food with a view of the bay at sunset.

Let's face it, we're too old to save money. Time to spend it.

Let's sail and eat!

Yellowfin Steak & Fish House

2840 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD

Category: Seafood Restaurant

(We can walk there ~0.2 miles)

It is rain or shine; only thunderstorms will stop this sail. In which case the rescheduled rain date will be, Saturday, Sept 13, 2014 from 12-6 pm (12-2 pm picnic lunch & 2-6 pm sail time and 6-8 or so pm dinner). Only applies for hurricanes, thunderstorms or boat failure of some sort (need an engine to get in and out of the dock area).

All Aboard, mates!

The trip was a trip! We all had a blast sailing the bay and good food for dinner. Nice seeing everyone again and meeting the newbies who will add some spice to all our lives at future events.

Yes, we are still going. Don't let Rich scare you away. He is only joking around. If they cancel it, we will do something else together before dinner. The best attraction in Edgewater is London town which is a garden or we can go to Annapolis and look around because it is close by. Here is link to London town gardens:

Is this still going? I do not really want to be on the water during a thunderstorm.

OH YES It IS AN EXCELLENT CONDUCTOR! I'll take you by the scrap yard at the marina where they hide all the fried sail boats from unsuspecting non-EE's, madam Chemist. One will get you ten your electrical power comes into your house on, wait for it, wait for it, ALUMINUM! not platinum. But on the bright side, the odds of us taking a lightning bolt on the bay are very small: roughly Prob(storm)xArea(bay)/Num(other sail boats). Much more than hitting MegaMillions, but much less than hitting a curb on your way to the marina!

      June 21

    • Dianne G.

OK Richard, Mr. Funny man. Copper is better than Al and so is platinum. They will cancel the sail if there are thunderstorms, but there won't be any today and I will miss the curb this time and hit something else instead. Maybe YOU! Ha!

All is well. Bring something to picnic on and get ready to have a great time!

I will bring some salads to picnic lunch. I like ice tea and can bring something else for drink. Do we need to bring ice?
I hope for lots of sun too. But a change of clothes is always a good idea. We might want a waterproof or weatherproof light jacket in the car, if rain chances haven't diminish.

    June 18

    • Dianne G.

Bring small amounts so it isn't wasted because it will be hot in your car and melt. Everyone is bringing a small amount for themselves, like a sandwich. Thanks for bringing the tea. You need to bring ice cubes because they do not have any there.

You have to SELL your ticket to whomever wants it. I do not get involved in 'transfers.' Almost all MeetUp groups operate that way.

    Good Morning Diane,
Monique would like a spot on the June 21 sailing adventure and I would like to give her mine. Will you please let us know the procedure to transfer tickets? Thank you!

I have wanted to try sailing for so long. I am really looking forward to this. I hope the weather is nice like today. It would be a pity if it rained. I is always fun to do things with Diane too.

Sorry for the confusion. It is BYOpicnic food and beer or whatever you want to drink that isn't wine or water for lunch. You do not have to do the picnic lunch; it is optional. I am providing wine, both red and white, and cheese and crackers and water for the sail but you can have it during lunch too. But, if you want tea or soda or beer, you need to bring them because those items are not included.

    June 8

  • Julie W.

Hey Dianne, it says in one place that wine, cheese and crackers will be provided, but in another place it says the price only provides the sail and that it is BYOB and snacks

The waitlist is now on for the sailing the bay event on Sat, June 21.
