Day at the Beach w/Boogie Boarding & a Boil

We'll spend the day at the Beach and be kids again! There's no better way to beat the Houston Summer than near/in the water!

Ginger has offered to bring out several Boogie Boards for us to use, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like. Boogie Boarding in the surf is always fun!
Feel free to make suggestions... kite flying? ... kayaking? ... fishing? ... it's really up to you, what you want to spend your time doing. Pack up your toys and come on out!

We're also planning to do a seafood boil, if it's allowed and we're not in a burn ban... we'll see. Otherwise, we'll get something else together...

Put the date on your Calendar and join us! Come on out at whatever time you can get away!

Thanks to all the kayakers. It was a bit shallow and windy, but I hope you all enjoyed it. I love to kayak there and will certainly go again maybe on our own tour.
Boogie Boarders, so sorry about the lousy waves. Don't give up. Please try it again, it is so fun. I love going to the beach. I will post another trip soon and we can all bring our own food.
It was so nice to see everyone!

Details for the kayak tour this Sat: our volunteer guide, Frank, said to meet him at 9:00 at the kayak put in by the old amphitheater. So this means we have to check in at the office, which opens at 8:00, and drive back across the freeway into the bayside of the park. Just keep straight and look for the parking for kayaks on the right side, and a walkway to the bay on the left hand side. Leave plenty of time to meet Frank at 9:00. I asked about donations, and he said whatever people want to give is ok. I checked the price of a similar tour, Artist Boat, which was $25. Nothing is set for donation amount.

    July 24, 2013

So far we have Sonia and daughter, Blanca, Sophie, Pauline, and myself for kayaking with the state park volunteer. There are still more kayaks, so let me know if you can commit.

Great news for more activities Sat. I just spoke with a volunteer who will guide us on a kayak tour for donations to the friends of the park and he has several kayaks so you don't even need one. However we would need to meet him at 9:00. I am going and if you want to join me I need to know so I can tell him. I will try to post the info. But I received a message it was too long.

Friends of Galveston Island State Park has 7 tandems sit on top kayaks, paddles and life vests to accomodate 12 persons on each tour. Tours on any day can be arranged for groups up to 15 on any mutually accepteable date; time of day will depend on tides. To arrange a guided tour for you or your group (no group to small) I'm on the water 2 or 3 times a week anyhow.

I went to the state park a week ago and the waves were flat. So you never know. Seaweed is in, but you just go around it. They have 2 bathrooms and several changing booths. The outside showers are great for rinsing off but they ask you not to use soap which may damage native plants. The sand is hot and there is a 5-10 minute walk to the beach from your car, so beware of hot sand and sand burrs. Once you reach the beach, the sand is soft and cool. It will be great fun!

      July 17, 2013

You all know how generous Sophie is, so I think we should all contribute at least $5 to the shrimp boil. In addition we could bring salads and deserts.

    July 15, 2013

    • Sophie

No need to pay anything to me. I'm going to wait until we are there so I know how many actually show up. And, anyone who wants to participate in the Boil can pitch in when we go buy the shrimp. I usually get it right down the road a bit at Allex's.

      2 · July 15, 2013

    • Sophie

Oh, and, yes... Feel free to bring whatever you'd like to add for sides or desserts.

      July 15, 2013

  • Ginger H.

If you don't have a state park pass, consider purchasing one. Everyone in your car gets in for free to every state park. You also get 2 free nights camping and discounts at the gift shop. It costs $70 a year and it helps TPWD. They operate on a shoestring budget. That's why the ranger who leads your hike may be he same person who empties the trash, cleans the bathrooms, and checks you in.

    July 15, 2013

  • Sophie

I've changed the location to the State Park. It'll make it easier for those who come later in the day to find us and they have some good facilities and tables for us to use.

Ok, girls I just found your sire but I'm very ex tied about the activities. Do y'all bring kids to this events????

    July 7, 2013

    • Sophie

Most of our events are for ladies only. But, we let the hostess of an event set the rules on whether or not they want to allow kids, spouses, friends, or dogs to attend. You'll need to read each of the postings for this info. If you don't see it mentioned, it's probably for ladies only by default... but, be sure to ask.

This is an all-women's group, so I don't think anyone is in this group with an expectation to date within the group. Yes, it's normal to attend by yourself: the point of meetup.com is to make new friends in the groups.

If you choose an area around Christmas Bay and the paddling trail that would be Texas Parks and Wildlife Division and their rules for fires. That is out of Galveston Beach Patrol Division jurisdiction.
