New Year's Day 10k Hike on Seabrook Nature Trails

Let's start the new year off right with some good exercise at our 3rd Annual New Year's Day 10K Hike! Shake off that hangover and get walking! We are going to invite some of the other meetup groups and hopefully get a good-sized group going! The more the merrier!

Where to meet:

Meet in the parking lot. Amanda will wear a baseball cap and will be walking 1 or 2 friendly reddish-brown medium-sized dogs. Cellphone # is[masked]-9160. I drive a silver Honda Civic hybrid.

About the walk:
We are going to walk along the Seabrook trails towards Pine Gully Park. At Pine Gully Park, we will take a rest and refreshment break and then turn around and walk back. We can take a mini-break at the Robinson Park Gazebo on the way there and back if needed. If we do this entire walk, it will be about 6 miles. If you don't want to walk all the way to Pine Gully Park, you can turn around at any time.

There are restrooms along the way at Robinson Park and Pine Gully Park. There are restrooms at our starting point but they might be locked.

There is a doggie water fountain at Robinson Park (about halfway) and a faucet at Pine Gully Park.

What to bring:
Drinking water
Mosquito repellent
Sunscreen and a hat if it is sunny
weather-appropriate clothing
Your leashed dog, if you have one
Friends and family who enjoy walking

What we might see:
There is a lot of wildlife on these nature trails. We may or may not see the following: Birds (egrets, herons, pelicans, cormorants, roseate spoonbills, LBTs, etc.), Rabbits, Deer, Cows , Wild Pigs, Turtles, Snakes.

Birds and birdwatching:
If you have any interest in birds and birdwatching (or in photography), Seabrook is listed as an official bird migration route and is a favorite of birdwatchers. Here is more info from the city's website:{423B8EC[masked]E1F-AF52-1B1FC89A22E7}&DE=

Thanks to everyone who dragged themselves out of bed on New Year's Day to attend this hike! We had a great turnout and really lucked out with the beautiful weather. The pair of roseate spoonbills on the nature trail was a nice bonus.

Good morning! There is a slight chance of rain. If it does rain while we're out there, it should be light rain, so trails should not get muddy.

    Some last-minute info:
    1) There are NO bathrooms where we are meeting and parking. There will be 2 stops along the way that have restrooms, but it will be about a 2-mile walk to the first restroom.
    2) Due to some construction for flood control, this walk will not be quite as scenic as usual. A section of the nature trail has been torn up. However, Pine Gully Park is still as beautiful as ever.
    3) CALL OR TEXT ME if you are running late, lost, or need to cancel![masked]-9160. Include your NAME in the text or voice mail so I don't mark you as a no-show.
    4) If you get tired at any time, you can stop and rest or turn around and walk back to your vehicle. No pressure!
