Let's Hike Terry Hershey Park

Let's hike the dirt path south of the bayou at Hwy. 6 to Dairy Ashford and back.

Terry Hershey Park:  http://www.pct3.hctx.net/parks/terryhershey.aspx

Parking information:  The parking lot on Hwy. 6 isn't a part of Terry Hershey. It's for another Hike & Bike trail that goes to the west, but it doesn't give a name on the sign (which is only visible from the south). We'll be heading east thru T. H. Park. (We have to cross under Hwy. 6.)

Olga, I wasn't in "camera mode" by the time you had to leave. Now I know to take a group photo first thing, before we even start walking. Please join us on another event so I can correct not getting a photo of you. Of course, if it weren't for you, I would have been blissfully ignorant that I was stumbling around in poison ivy. LOL.

How great that you got such a good shot of the "pile of turtles on a rock." It will take a while for me to get to a computer so I can post a few more photos.

I agree with you Jean, I had a great time with the both of you today! I sure did enjoy the hike and the beautiful weather. That poison ivy sure did love you Jean! And the small waterfall was a great sight. Sure looking forward to next time. Not to mention, bringing along More water wouldn't be such a bad idea :) hehe.

What a great hike! Olga enhanced the event with her knowledge of plants before she had to leave. Liz & I continued for a total of 10 miles, exploring dirt trails and finding a nice little waterfall and a pretty duck pond in which was a pile of turtles basking on the same rock. They dove into the water before we could get a good photo of them. I exposed myself to poison ivy, but gotta say, this time, it was worth it! We had so much fun! Watch for photos.

We explored the dirt trails and had a blast! Good company, good trails and the weather held out till almost the end.

Now I have a HOA meeting on Saturday so I can't make the hike. I hope you do it again.

There's a slight chance of rain Sat., so you may want to bring a poncho & shoes that can get muddy. We will only cancel for heavy rain/thunder storms.

I am confused now. Are we meeting at HWY 6 or beltway 8?

Tracy, we are meeting at Hwy 6. Maybe the beltway shows as an address for the park. The parking lot on Hwy 6 is not a part of Terry Hershey; it's for the other bike trail that goes west. So sorry for the confusion. I'll be emailing my number to those attending soon, but I'll be out of pocket most of today. Really sorry. It' a really nice hike, though! :-)

Please understand that meetup.com has preset maps and addresses to many of locations. I have tried to update the map to reflect the "general" area that Jean is referring to. If all else fails, be sure to exchange phone numbers (privately) so that you can contact each other on the day of the event. Hope that helps. :)

Folks, ignore any reference to Beltway 8. It has nothing to do with this hike, except as an address for the park. We are coming in the back door from Hwy. 6. I'll try to edit the map, but can't do that today. It's a really great hike, though! :D

Let's all gather at the bridge going over the bayou.

The parking lot is really crowded with bikers on the weekends. We may have to circle around or sit and wait for a space to open, and they do open up. Sorry, no red carnation in my lapel for easy recognition. I'll try to get there early enough to be out of my car and waiting for y'all on the bridge over the bayou (south side of the lot, at the highway.) I'll be wearing gray hair; other than that, I'm not sure, yet. I don't have all that nice technology that tells how far I've walked, but I' m guessing this in and out hike is around 6 miles; probably 2 hours or so, depending on stops for photos. (There's a pretty little duck pond before we get really wooded.)

Jean, is this supposed to be Terry Hershey located over off I-10? or is there one in Llano?

    October 30, 2012

Okay, check out the description now. Does that look okay? Sometimes you cant always get really specific on the locations especially when it comes to parking lots so I just added the map information in the description. Will that work?

Ignore the location debacle above. Meet in the parking lot on Hwy. 6 between Memorial Dr. and Briar Forest. I'll get that edited soon...
