Main Meeting: Rescue Me: Make your escape with Twilio - Robert Horvick

We’ve all been there. It’s 5:15 and that “quick” meeting is about to become a marathon. Your blind date? About to go nuclear. You need a quick escape and you need it now. If only someone would call!

In this talk, you will learn about the Twilio service and how you can use it to send and receive SMS, MMS and voice calls from your web application. Along the way, we will build a simple WebAPI application that can bail you out of bad situation right when you need it most.

Speaker: Robert Horvick

Robert Horvick is the founder and Principal Engineer at Raleigh-Durham, N.C.-based Devlightful Software where he focuses on delighting clients with custom .NET solutions and video based training.  He is an active Pluralsight author with courses on algorithms and data structures, SMS and VoIP integration and data analysis using Tableau.

He previously worked for nearly ten years as a Software Engineer for Microsoft, as well as a Senior Engineer with 3 Birds Marketing LLC, and as Principal Software Engineer for Itron.

On the side, Horvick is married, has four children, is a brewer of reasonably tasty beer and enjoys playing the guitar poorly.

Meeting Agenda:

5:30-6:00 - Welcome/Food
6:00-6:15 - Announcements
6:15-7:45 - Presentation
7:45-8:00 - Give-aways

Thank you to the May Main Meeting sponsor!

Chris - I didn't get a chance to catch up with you last night but if you want to chat sometime about Twilio or what you're working on please feel free to let me know. :)

Robert - Thanks. Last minute had to handhold a vendor through an upgrade. So I didn't make it. Basically what I'm trying to do is create a way for people to get information about local health resources if they don't have a smartphone or don't have an app. Going to pitch it at CityCamp May 29th. You should check it out if you're available www.citycamp.org/register.

Do we need to print off the ticket linked at the top of the meetup page to get in, or is it just walk-in?

    May 14, 2014

    • Justin S.

No need to print; just sign-in when arriving.

Looks like I won't be making it now. I have to drive there from Fort Bragg, and that takes about an hour and a half. My wife still hasn't returned from her doctors appointment so I won't be able to get there before the doors close at 1800.

    2) In the phone's browser, navigate to our app download here: http://deploy.lobbyguard.net/prod/InstallMobile.htm

    3) Follow the screens to register your phone. Use the App code "54321" (no quotes) when asked.

    4) When you are in the MSFT parking lot, Press the "Sign In" button
