Web sig: Introduction To MVC Hands On Lab With Chip and Rob

Last Month We had an Intro to MVC. This month its Lab time, hands on baby, lets rock some code !!

The goal of this session is to provide and introduction to the ASP.NET MVC framework and create a basic CRUD data application allowing the user to view and edit data.

First we will demo the application that you are going to create. Then Rob Zelt will type in code as I (Chip Burris) babble at the audience.

Then dear people its your turn !  We have handouts in the form of step by step directions and even completed source code if you want to cheat !   We will have helpers wandering around the room helping. And feel free to pipe up with questions !

At the end of this you will have a working mini application that we will expand upon in other sessions.

If you did not make it to the previous MVC meetup (or you forgot everything)  have no fear. You will do fine here.

Bring Your notebooks and Visual Studio 2012/2013 or visual Studio express.

FYI, for other newbies, the tutorial uses MVC 2 and if you use MVC 4, ignore their syntax and use Razor.

I ended up with other commitments and couldn't come. I want to come to the next session though. Is the code from this week or the step by step instructions available so I can come up to speed with the group?

Chip and Rob Kudos on being patient and curious along with being good at technology and teaching. I would love to see some kind of competitive assignments (read bragging rights) added to all the sig's

Thanks Rob! I also appreciated the 'extra credit' challenge. I think, before the next hands on, should be some more challenges to keep everyone interested.

Thanks to everybody that came out last night for the meeting, especially those that helped out during the lab. It was great to see the level of engagement and interaction everybody had! For those that couldn't make it we have posted the lab document and associated code up on Github here:

As a newbie, I need hands-on labs. This was my first intro to MVC and I really appreciate the effort put into it.
