Please Note: Membership requires a recognizable picture so our organizers can find you at events. If you do not upload a picture your membership will be removed. Also, when you sign up, please sign up only as one person, do NOT sign up as a couple, i.e. "Joe and Mary Smith". Signing up as a couple makes things much harder for our accounting for memberships and event RSVPs

Welcome to the Trail and River Rovers of East Carolina. For short, you can call us TRREC (pronounced "trek", or "trrek" if you want to roll your r's).
I live for backpacking, kayaking, and bicycling. But I found it difficult to meet people who actually got out and did those things--plenty of people would talk the walk, but when the weekend arrived, all I heard was excuses. Meetup.com changed all that and we now have a great group of hiking and kayaking enthusiasts.
TRREC is a place where East Carolinians can organize expeditions. There are a wealth of paddling opportunities in East Carolina, but setting up a good paddle requires knowledge of such details as weather, water levels, put-ins, take-outs, and shuttles. And planning is also required for hiking and bicycling trips, as they often involve a safety considerations, drives of several hours, and camping accommodations. Unfortunately, there are very few hiking opportunities in East Carolina, so expect most of our hiking to involve overnight camping or backpacking.
TRREC’s organizers are not “leaders”. We organize events for those with the skills and resources necessary to participate. However, if you are new to backpacking, kayaking, or bicycling and want to know how to get started, we will be happy to help you and share what we know. It takes a bit of learning, and it requires some gear, but the rewards are immense.
By the way, I think you'll find us sociable but we are not primarily a social club. We are event centered: It really is all about the trails with us. It's all about the trails and the people who take those trails. If your goal is just to meet people, go to dinner, have adventures, have a few laughs, etc., there are other meetups for that. But if you enjoy immersion in nature with other folks who are serious about it, you've come to the right place.
So whether it’s ‘packing, paddling, or pedaling, we hope to see you out there on the trail….
And now that you know what we're all about: Before joining TRREC, please review the "Member Policies" page below. The "Letter to Members on TRREC's First Birthday" will give you a good idea of how we've established our character over a year in operation. For basic information about skills and equipment needed to participate in TRREC outings, visit our Questions, Info., and Tips discussion forum.
