City Park - Ferril Lake - DMNS (map)
Before our Denver Museum of Nature and Science monthly visit to the Planetarium's presentation of "60 Minutes in Space" this month, where we'll discover more about our position in our Milky Way Galaxy, Sherry Litasi will be giving each of us an orienteering map of Denver City Park for us to explore the park together.
The photo I selected for this event announcement is a photo collage I created by adding an orienteering compass to a stunning picture I found in the NASA.gov creative commons. The photo is called "Milky Way Galaxy appears over Ontario" by Kerry-Ann Lecky Hepburn (Weather and Sky Photography).
In 1997, Sherry was the first woman event director of the World Masters Orienteering Championship event held at Camp Ripley, in Little Falls, Minnesota, with 2,000 competitors from 35 different countries.
Sherry created an orienteering map of Denver City Park that she will share with us. This map was used for the 3rd annual National Get Outdoors Day in Denver City Park by the Rocky Mountain Orienteering Club's demonstration exhibit.
Sherry is also a Certified Massage Therapist, and Posture Alignment Specialist. Her website is BodyWorkDynamics.com.
After the walk, Richard and I invite you to a fascinating presentation in the planetarium. You'll see pictures from current space explorations. You'll have an opportunity for questions and answers after this monthly presentation of "60 Minutes in Space".
Beginning this August, this planetarium presentation will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. This free General Public program often fills up. I'm hoping that we will have a few non-walkers to save the walkers some seats in the Planetarium.
Denver's City Park has many easy and scenic walking areas with beautiful changes for each season. On the last Wednesday of every month (except November and December), we walk about 1.5 miles in about 30 - 45 minutes. We walk from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, around Ferril Lake, past the Denver Zoo's duck pond, the historic Boathouse Pavilion and band stand, and back up to the museum.
Carpoolers, please let us know in your RSVP comment whether you are available to carpool as a driver or rider, and your general point of origin.

Thank you Will for your comments about the importance of learning orienteering. I'm especially eager to learn more about it with Sherry as our guide.
