Mikkel Aaland is an award wining photographer, popular workshop leader and author of
fifteen books on digital photography and post-production. He has been at the forefront of digital photo technology since its beginnings. Aaland has been a pioneer of digital photography ever since his interest was aroused when world famous American photographer Ansel Adams told of his fascination for digital photos from space during an interview in 1980. Aaland began writing about digital photography for the Swedish periodical Photo and for American Photographer, later being engaged as a consultant for TV programmes and guest columnist for www.newsweek.com. Aaland was also a non-paid advisor in the original development of Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and has authored numerous books on both applications. Recently he authored the two Adobe Press titles:
Learn Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 by Video and
Adobe Photoshop CS5 Techniques for Photographers. At this Meetup Aaland will show us his personal workflow using Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS 5 using images from his new pictorial book "A Year on a River in Norway".

I concur with Brian Wong's review.

It was a good meeting and I enjoyed Aaland's presentation. However, it wasn't what was promised, as I was expecting to hear about Workflow. It would have been better if the talk about the development of his book was shorter and more about Workflow was offered. I hope we can come back to a talk on Professional workflow.
But the evening was educational and enjoyable even if the topic was not what i expected and we started 1/2 hr late.

Mikkel's a great speaker. His presentation was fascinating. He showed some of his work and he really, really knows about LR3 and Photoshop. I learned some new techniques and can't wait to try out some of what he talked about.

Mikkel's sharing about his workflow came secondary to his sharing about his most recent work. I would have been satisfied if he shared 15 minutes about him and his work, and spent the next two hours sharing about workflow. Instead, most of the time was spent on his portfolio. Also, his presentation of his portfolio seemed much more coherent than the presentation on workflow. The former seemed well rehearsed, while the latter seemed quickly thrown together. Not a bad presentation, just not what I was expecting when the title was "A Professional Workflow in Lightroom 3 & Photoshop CS5"

Spectacular! I truly enjoyed this event. Thanks Mikkel for giving up the Giants game to share your Lightroom 3 experience and your personal project with us. Thanks Fredrick for hosting the event. Thanks Addy for donating the onOne Plug-In Suite that I was fortunate enough to win by knowing that Iceland was not part of Scandanavia!

Another home run. Mikkel is extremely talented and what made this a bit different from previous meetups was that he spent quite a bit of time in the "artistry" concept verses technical.

We had an excellent session, first learning about Mikkel's history in photography, then getting a preview of his latest book, and finally having a wide-ranging discussion of using Lightroom 3 and photographic workflow. Great prizes for participation. The only disappointment was that the time was more limited than usual.

Interesting life and a great slide-show. He kinda lost me at the latter end of the LR3 presentation.

Great meeting! I found the first part (creativity) very worthwhile. Also learned some new things in the second part, and LR3 is my main software. Thanks for that!

Inspiring, from one who is passionate about photography, and making it in the field. Surely, the technical tools are necessary, which is the purpose of this meetup, and is eventually learned at a personal pace. But it was interesting to know the personal events, how often and what kind of opportunity knocks on his door as an accomplished writer and photographer.

Yes, that was a mistake in the original email. This Meetup will be held Tuesday the 28th. The library is closed on Mondays now.

The email received this evening said Monday 9/27. I'll assume it's really Tuesday 9/28 as noted above unless someone advises otherwise. Thank you!
