Great turnout, numbers-wise, and a lot of very interesting conversations. The physical facilities are getting organized quickly (by volunteers) and there's a lot of interest in upcoming projects like the Delta 3D printer ("SchoolBot").

I have some drive mechanisms from VSAT satellite antennas. These dishes were about 4 ft dia so it's some beefy hardware that should entice the robotics type. The unit has 24v gear motors, sprockets, worm gears, brakes, rotary bearings, rotary position sensors, inclinometers,... Will donate to the best idea of how to utilize it.
I have a couple of photos, but am a newbee here and don't see how to post photos.

They have gear motors that raise the dish and rotate the whole assembly and rated for high wind so they are quite beefy

I'm a retired programmer formerly involved in Air Traffic Control computers, hobby programmer, and tinkerer with small hardware projects. I want to extend my knowledge of robotics, embedded programming and whatever else.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
