Jonathan will be hosting a 1940 Global Match.

PLEASE READ-
Victory Conditions - For the Allies, capture an enemy capitol while still keeping your own. Unchanged for the Axis. Anything else gets called a draw.

We'll use 10 minute turn limits for Majors and 7 minutes for Minors.

The game will be set up ahead of time and ready to go. The house is a 'shoeless' wear your 'fancy socks'.....please bring a few $ for ordering pizza - some pop and snacks provided. Please be prompt. We can see about car pooling from Tacoma, those interested.

Please do not block the driveway, as Jonathan's wife may wish to come and go during the day!

    Recap continued:

T5: Germany and Italy continue into Russia. Russia counterattacks Japanese and Italian forces in Southern Russia. Japan completes its capture of the East Indies and takes New Britain. ANZAC recaptures New Britian while the UK starts waiting for the hammer to fall in India. The US takes Norway and continues sparring with Japan in the Pacific by taking Okinawa and putting pressure on the sea zone around Japan.

T6: Germany recaptures Norway and continues building strength in Russia, wary of Moscow's defenses. Italy continues moving into Southern Russia and captures Egypt. ANZAC continues picking off isolated Japanese naval units. The US recaptures Norway and captures the Caroline Islands.

    A brief game recap.

T1: Germany and Italy move into France and the Balkans, the UK destroys the bulk of the Italian fleet, Japan attacks China but is rebuffed in Yunnan. The US pulls the bulk of the Pacific fleet to the Atlantic and begins prepping an invasion fleet for Europe.

T2: Germany finishes off the Balkans and begins maneuvering against Russia, Japan continues its moves into China with a devastating (for the Chinese) victory in Yunnan.

T3: Germany declares war on Russia, taking the border territories. Italy moves into the Middle East. Japan continues advancing into China. The US declares war on Japan and Germany.

T4: Germany continues into Russia. Italy takes Syria and moves into Southern Russia. Japan declares war on the UK and ANZAC, but has to split its fleet to take three of the four East Indies islands. Japan moves into Southeast Russia. ANZAC and the UK tag team a Japanese fleet and eliminate it. The US begins moving towards Europe and spars with Japan in the Pacific.

Axis prevailed. I still think a bid is need for the Allies. Thank you for hosting Jonathon! Your place is very nice and a good sized table makes it easy to play.

I'm still not sure about the bid, but I'm not gonna say no to extra resources with the Allies. Aside from Egypt having fallen at the very end of the last game, the overall Allied position was not horrible. The issue that I have with drawing a conclusion that the Allies can't win, unless the Axis screws up, is that we've never had a game where America gets to do more than one or two combat turns (turn five doesn't count because it takes two turns for America to get anywhere!) and we always wind up calling the game after turn 6 or so. We never play long enough to see what's going on in turns 7, 8, and 9 -- it could be that there are unforseen opportunities that develop We've got to get to the point where turns are happening fast enough that America can actually be a factor. Maybe we should consider coming up with a realistic setup that starts at the beginning of turn five and having folks choose sides and play from there a couple of times?

Asian was dominated by the Japanese, and though Russia hadn't fallen- a sizable German force was on Moscow's doorstep. The U.S. and Britain were nipping at Germany and Italy's heels....in my view it would eventually have been an Axis Victory- but probably after many more rounds....

My roommate and I are considering coming. I've played Global 40 1st edition a few times and a couple of the Harris rules tests and a good number of the earlier editions but in no sense would I consider myself a skilled player. My roommate has played casually a few times only. Would this be a good time to jump in or would you all hope for a more serious player for this meetup?

As long as you don't mind someone getting only a minor power or two, you guys are more than welcome.

I'm gonna go ahead and claim Japan. I have some twists that I want to try, and I have yet to play Japan in global since I developed my Pacific strats.

I also looked at Pacific 1940 Second Edition and there is a US killing strategy that appears to be unstoppable for Japan. It happens on Turn 4, not Turn 3. I have not had time to see, since it requires completely ignoring China, ANZAC and UK if they can make enough progress to make up for the loss of the USA but my gut feeling is they can't.

Thar is how I feel too. I did my best to get Larry to change it to $10 but they left it at $30.

      August 30, 2013

    • Jonathan

Well, it could be changed to "an unprovoked declaration of war against the United States". This would leave far more options for Japan.

      August 30, 2013

  • Andrew

Can't we start a wee earlier? If someone is going to be there at 12:30 couldn't they be a later Power; like UK or Italy?

    August 25, 2013

    • Andrew

So I can show up Sunday night to play?

      August 25, 2013

    • Jonathan

Yeah, but then you'll be waiting a long time for Russia's first turn...

      August 26, 2013

  • Andrew

Jonathon - My wife decided playing twice in one weekend was verboten so I will see you on Monday but not Saturday.

    August 25, 2013

  • Damian A.

I'd love to play on that date... but I will at the Penny Arcade Expo that day.

    August 14, 2013

  • Andrew

Depending on number of Players I would like to be UK or UK Europe.

    August 14, 2013

  • Jonathan

Adding a friend of mine who wants to try to play. We'll probably give him a minor power.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
