AXIS & ALLIES IN OUTER SPACE

  • Sep 23, 2012 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Fight for control of the twenty-fifth century Inner Solar System as imagined in the 1950s in this strategy game which is a close relative of Axis & Allies. The map board's Solar System Display keeps track of the 4 inner planets (Mercury through Mars) and the 9 larger asteroids along their orbits. Killer Satellites, interplanetary battles and it has nothing to do with the awful 80's TV show! Check out this site for info- http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/548/buck-rogers-battle-for-the-25th-century-game . We can have a side game of the new STAR TREK CATAN (if I get a copy by Meetup). Hope you can make it!

A BIG thanks to Jake who guided us through the dark expanse of space and offered some variant rules as we played two complete games of BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25th CENTURY. First game Gavin won, second game it was a close run between Dan and Jake, as Jake won with one more territory. Lots of fun with lots of spaceships, 'gennies' and killer satellites!

So will we be using the basic rules or some of the more advanced rules? We've always found that Pass-Through Fire, combining builds from adjacent Factories, and production of Fighters by Factories on Transports make for the best three rules to add in to the Basic game. Of course, playing this game with ANY rules is always awesome, so we're down for anything, just wondering.

I'll be happy to let you guide us- we've never played it and I have not played for a long, long time!

We played it regularly with our old group, and since we're starting in the afternoon we can get several games out in a very reasonable time--the game moves fast, a really long game is two hours. So if everyone except us is a bit newer to the game, the basic rules work fine and are super-easy to learn, and then ppl can decide what we want to incorporate. The one thing that seemed to continually frustrate people playing it with us was not using Pass-Through Fire. In the basic game, going first is a huge disadvantage because if you invade an enemy territory they can simply move their pieces out on their turn without a fight. This can lead to long drawn-out circling moves on planets with only small groups of troops when one side wants to avoid a fight. And it can be a bit silly to have built a huge space fleet in near orbit but not a Killer Satellite and have a single unescorted enemy transport just fly right through and land on your planet.

Hi Dan, my name is Jake (hence, the username, 'Jake'. No, really :) ) Im new to this area and really looking forward to getting to know some gamers out here. Thanks for hosting, and me and my wife Lucy will be there with ray guns primed! We can also bring a second copy of the game if the meetup fills up and other people want to try it! Its such a rad game and it plays so fast!
