Chomping at the bit to practice your 敬語 but don't want to brave Seattle traffic to chat up the folks at Uwajimaya? Aching to augment your grasp of ある/ありません, but haven't found a good place to practice in Tacoma? Looking to liberate your ら り る れ ろ from behind that lump stuck in your throat? We're the brand-new just-out Japanese Meetup in Tacoma. Our over-all purpose is to practice and improve our spoken Japanese, but really, as far as topics go, the sky is the limit. Want to talk about the latest Murakami book? Discuss the newest Miyazaki picture? Debate how Obama/Romney is going to womp on Obama/Romney in two weeks? Then we're your huckleberry! The plan is simple: Meet up regularly at strategically placed restaurants, bars, pubs, etc. around Tacoma with like-minded intermediate/advanced Japanese speakers and discuss things, preferably in Japanese, in a casual, laid-back environment. First, some ground rules: We aren't going to be set up for classroom-style book learning. This is more-or-less a social gathering. This does NOT mean, however, that you cannot look up a particularly complicated grammatical rule (using the word さえ comes to mind for me), vocabulary word, or something, and bring it with you to pick the brains of your brethren. Feel free to ask questions, and I'm sure the rest of us will do what we can to break it down "Barney-style." Native, advanced, or intermediate speakers are preferred. We understand that beginners have to start somewhere, but we've been to a couple of other Japanese meetups, and beginners tend to just end up being left behind. Of course, this is a fine opportunity to start a meetup for beginners only, and exclude "those elitist intermediates". :P Since we're just getting started, we'll start off with regular Wednesday meetups, but we're definitely open to branching out into other events as our little group grows. Please sign up to keep informed of any upcoming events! お楽しみに！ Suggestions? Email Matt.
