Beginner Bike Riding "Class"

If you loved riding your bike when you were younger, but now feel kinda clueless, or

if you have a bike but are worried about anything that might go wrong, or

if you're intimidated by possibly having to act like a "cool bike jock" to fit in -

this is for you! This beginner-level, first-timers-warmly-welcomed free bike "class" starts at 1:00pm for a 45 minute, pre-ride discussion of things we cyclists need to know. TMS Ride Leader Jim, who among other excitements has twice ridden down the Pacific Coast Highway (and doesn't have the body to show for it...) will talk about three general areas:

* helmets and bike clothing, miscellaneous equipment;

* very basic bike mechanics, including simple solutions to a few common problems;

* safe and effective ride techniques (trail and road etiquette, brake and gear use, pedaling cadence, food and drink, etc.);

* whatever else you want to know or ask about. This will be a low-key way to learn some useful biking information.

There may be a written handout summarizing what's discussed. Please bring your bike as we'll be doing a few things with our own bikes, an "air bicycle" doesn't work very well. No minors or pets, just like the rides.

This meeting will be immediately before the 2:00pm Orting-South-Prairie-Orting bike ride. You may attend either or both.  Attendance at "class" is limited to 12; if there's demand identical classes will be held before some future rides.

There's no such thing as a stupid question if you don't know the answer, so come on down and speak up - ride leader will, if necessary, make up a response.

Any questions please email Jim, [masked].

So - if you don't know how to shift your gears, or are helpless when your chain comes off, or wonder if a meal of Fritoes and chocolate milk is good biking fuel (it is, but the burps taste funny...) we hope to see you there!
