Camping at Ft. Casey on Whidbey Island

  • August 1, 2013 · 3:00 PM

 Camping at Fort Casey

We are going in with South Sound Singles Meetup group with renting three campsites on the water at Ft. Casey.  This state park has flush toilets and pay showers.  This works well for novice campers.  A tent, sleeping bag, and air mattress will be your basic needs.   (Mountaineers always bring their 10 essentials).

We normally cook as a group and will figure out the food list later.  They can provide good food for about $25 for three days.  They will also have enough cooking equipment for the whole group.

There are some hiking trails and the island is quite scenic.  There are major gun turrets and a light house to tour.   Our campsites are right by the Port Townsend to Whidbey Island Ferry Dock.  We are planning on spending Sat. afternoon riding the ferry to Port Townsend as walk-ons.  We can walk around Port Townsend and have dinner before returning to our campsite.

Many people will want to carpool and we can work that out closer to the event.  We are charging a $25 camping fee to RSVP and $25 before the event for food.  People are welcome to do their own food and come and go as they choose.  Jim Manning, our host, will be leaving Thurs. morning, but many people will be coming after work Friday.

You can show interest on this site but you can only go when you pay $25 to secure your name on the camping list on the following link:   http://www.meetup.com/south-sound-singles/events/96350902/

    Hey Campers,
Okay, there were problems with the payment set up for camping at Ft. Casey on the SSS site. So Jim's answer to all this was that you can send ME your check (if you have a checking account) or pay me cash for $25.00 for the site and $25 for the food for the weekend. Make the check out to South Sound Singles. Or get your cash to me ASAP!
Even if you are on the waiting list! The first 28 people to pay get in. There are currently 14 who have paid, that leaves - ahhhhh - another 14 to get their money in.
Email me for My address or call me to meet me with cash at[masked]-7458. See you soon!

We need to get people confirmed by going to the SSS site. We will also need to know who is coming Thursday night! We have secured three sites for Thursday but could get more now if we have commitments from more folks. We can group cook and others are welcome to do their own thing. We will need a basic count for the group cooking to purchase food. Thanks Jim Manny

Arriving Friday, leaving Sunday. I will need a tent site and have already paid. Tell Jim I'm all about having him cook and need to know whether to pay in advance or on arrival.

    June 27, 2013

    • Rachel

Change that to "having Jim plan." I'm happy to help cook/clean up! LOL

      June 27, 2013

  • James M.

Let's be clear, everyone cooks or cleans up! If everyone does one thing at one meal it works pretty well. We like to eat well salmon steak Ham roasted or deep fat fried turkey. We will try to cook two meats so people can pick. Please feel free to bring a dish or snacks you'd like to share. Each site has a small fire pit so roasting sticks and marshmallows might be needed.
