Greetings from the Ride Leader -
Thanks to all who attended yesterday's Green River bike ride. I overcame a near-fatal case of ennui to show up, was pleased that everyone was so upbeat and friendly. Post-ride comments on the website suggest a good time was had by all; thank you for your positive feedback, its all we organizers get paid :-)
The July 20 Cedar River bike ride probably will be moved or canceled as the bike trail may be closed for repairs. I'll list something final by Sunday July 14, hopefully for July 20; am thinking about a 15 mile jaunt on the lovely Sammamish River Trail (Redmond), 7.5 miles each way, out and back to a winery or brewery with yummy edibles. Redmond is a bit of a drive but it's a lovely area. My goal is to introduce you to flat, car-free bike trails within an hour or so of Tacoma, so you know where to go/take your friends when you want to ride something different. I'm hoping to have at least another half dozen rides, in various places, during the summer and fall.
When possible on future rides I'll include a shorter option. My usual 15-20 mile ride is about as short an organized ride as you'll find anywhere; I'll try to provide an alternate for any who thinks 6-8 miles will be plenty. If you'd rather do your normal 50 mile daily cruise you're welcome to start with us, leave the ride solo when you want, go as far as you want. These latter folks go "off the ride" and will have no support re: possible problems, you're on your own!
As always - if you need any advice on biking (what should I wear, will there be someone slow I can ride with [yes, the ride leader], can someone show me how to shift gears or remove my wheels, whatever) - shoot me an EM and I'll gladly help. We're all a team on these rides, help each other out, give newcomers as much advice and support as they want so they'll feel completely comfortable on that First Ride. And you won't get left behind, I promise!
Thanks again to all, see you out there - Jim Harvey, TMS bike ride leader
