Forage the Urban Wilds of Tacoma with the Pierce County Gleaning Project!

Our last meetup was looking for wild salmonberries and greens in Swan Creek. This time, we are going to forage for urban edibles that are both medicinal and delicious, lining our streets and backyards. We also may visit Blueberry Park to forage for fresh blueberries, and to scout out the nut and fruit trees!

Based on Rebecca Lerner's "Dandelion Hunter" and as a follow up to our book club discussion on the 24th, we will be going over urban toxicity, legal issues, sustainability, and other key points that are unique to foraging in an urban environment.

Overall, we will be changing our relationship to "weeds," and making some new plant friends and allies in the process!

We will be meeting in the parking lot of St. Leo's like last time, and we will also be carpooling.

PLEASE COMMENT BELOW if you have a car with extra room you are willing to share! We will not be driving very far; we will be staying wthin the city limits and may not end up driving at all, depending. But it would still be nice to have a car count :-)

Hope to see you there!

Totally spaced on this and bummed to have missed it. Somehow I didn't get it onto MY google calendar this time.

Since Meetup doesn't allow for a "maybe" reply, I'll put it here! Sounds great and I hope to attend but I'm a "maybe!"

I don't know anything about foraging but willing to learn.

Awesome, you'll be in good company! If you want to do a little prep-work, we will be reading Rebecca Lerner's "Dandelion Hunter" this month, then discussing it on the Wednesday before this foray, to help us prepare. But that's not necessary; this will be very beginner-friendly, with handouts and group support. I will look forward to meeting you! :-)
