Is anyone in contact with any of the people in the boats that took group pictures of us before we jumped off? It would be nice to see some of those photos.

Hey Earle, did the photo collection ever get put together?

The photographer recently delivered his work to Austin Eaton and we'll upload it to shutterfly or something and give everyone the link.

You guys missed out on making a new friend! (warning: if you don't like grotesque, Loch Ness-like sea creatures DON'T CLICK)

But in all seriousness, it was an honor to assist you guys in Taking the Rock. I looked over the hill and saw from Alcatraz to Aquatic Park and was in awe of what you guys did. Way to go!

I saw that today too. I wouldn't have know if we swam by it.

That would of been cool to swim by.

Great swimming with everyone. People are still asking about the swim, and I am proud to tell them that I completed it, alongside all of you.

    Hi All,

Had a great time on Saturday. Thanks to everyone for organizing such a great event. Can't wait for next year!

    Be well,

Im proud of each person who jumped off the sailboats and finished in aquatic park. I know many swimmers who stick to pool swimming because 'not seeing a black line' is daunting. Not to mention the thought of wildlife, swimming through a major shipping lane, adapting to cold water and dealing with tides. Well done! Hope to see you next year.

There are no words I can say to truly express my gratitude in letting me participate in this event. Everyone who set this up and supported the veterans from practices to the main event were wonderful. I am so glad to meet and get to know the other swimmers. The encouragement to push myself and keep trying helped me not only in the water but in my current life struggles. I will still carry the words "I can do anything, no matter the challenge, no matter the fight, i will give all. It doesn't matter if I win or loose it was the challenge in myself. I will never give up." Keep on fighting no matter what life faces you with. We took the rock and conquered our inner demons to jump in that cold water and fight the waves of mother nature.

For me the swim was a physical and mental challenge. I was very cold for the first 20 minuts, and then I got swept by the ebb and I honestly didn't know that I'd have enough steam to get to the Aquatic Park opening. Working with the Vietnam Vets, the VA Outreach folks, the Locos and my fellow veterans was an amazing experience. I hope to see you next year as swimmers, or coaches, or planners, or facilitators. You are special to me, and I might even go out and get my own tattoo to flash around in the Dolphin Club

It was definitely work. Thanks for all the great preparation. It made the difference.

Thanks Earle. When my life gets back together I will try to swim more and next year be stronger. But I still want my great kayak buddy Melissa she rocked.

I would have liked to have finished, but I'm really okay with my performance. I swam through a toe/foot cramp, but it was the cold that did me in. This swim helped me recognize my seemingly increasing inability to withstand the cold as I have really struggled more and more with abalone diving too. I am so glad I tried and so glad I got to add to my network of outdoor enthusiast vets and friends and family of vets. This was a really good experience for me all the way around. Maybe 10 degrees warmer would bring me back again. I definitely want to stay in touch about any future events. Congratulations to all of you who finished and to all who gave it everything and were unable to finish.
Salute to good health and happiness

Paige there was so many people who did not even attempt to take the rock. You are a strong woman in both mind and spirit. Be the rock star you are.

What a great day! It was so exciting to watch you all swim your hearts out! I felt so proud knowing how hard you'd trained and the incredible progress that was made in the last couple of months. I am putting together a slideshow and will burn a CD for each of you. It was truly a pleasure for me to be out there week after week with all of you in that beautiful setting. Congratulations to you all on your accomplishment!

Just to confirm what I heard from Mike yesterday.... Are all the Concord people meeting at Concord Vet Center at 0400?

    October 11, 2013

    • Michael E.

I can hang out with Bindie if no one else does, but I'm sure that will be a coveted job tomorrow.

      October 11, 2013

    • Melissa G.

Thanks everyone I hopefully will be there. I'm not riding on the shuttle from concord. My friend Anu said she would come with me. She can stay warm in the car with bindi until we are done. New place to call home so I'm hoping to get some sleep. Thanks Maurice.

Melissa, bring Bindi. Bill Green is a dog guy and he will pick her up at the Hyde Street Commercial Pier gate and care for her while you swim.

    I'm attending with 3 guests.
