19th Annual Grand Hike

***  Reminder, you cannot sign up on this page.  Click link below ***

And now the moment you've been patiently waiting for... Announcing the 19th Annual Grand Hike on May 10-12, 2013.

I am leading a group hike into (and hopefully out of) the Grand Canyon in one day. We drive up on Friday 5/10, camp Friday night. On Saturday, we rise early and tackle the Grand Canyon. We'll camp again Saturday night and return Sunday. Deluxe accommodations have been arranged at Mather Campground group sites #6 and #7 for the two nights before and after the Grand Hike. You'll enjoy a catered BBQ meal on Saturday evening next to the campfire and hopefully bask in the glory of your accomplishments.

We will take the South Kaibab Trail down to the Colorado River and return via the Bright Angel Trail. This is a death march of 17 miles, nearly 1 vertical mile of elevation loss and regain, with the steepest part of the hike at the end. Dire warnings aside, this is one of the most rewarding hikes in the world. There is still time to train for it. If you have not done this hike with me, I will need to talk / hike with you first.

Even if you don't intend to do the entire hike, you can still come and camp / hang out with the group. Many folks come to do a shorter hike to Indian Garden or Plateau Point, hike along the rim, do an alternate hike on their own, or just chill out.

The trip will cost you $15 per person to cover camping and food costs. If you wish to make your own accommodations (either in a hotel or another campsite), please feel free to do so. You're still welcome to meet us at the group campsite. I just ask that you bring your own dinner (or make advanced arrangements with me).

OK, so here's the hard part. You cannot sign up for this hike on Meetup. I manage the attendance list separately due to other interested groups and the need for me to screen hikers based on ability to do this hike. If you wish to attend, please read all the info at the following website. The official attendee list will be kept there as well. A waiting list will be kept when the trip fills up.

*** to sign up, you MUST EMAIL ME at [masked] ***
*** allow me to confirm your attendance before paying ***

If you have any questions, please read the material on the website first. And if questions remain unanswered, feel free to email me.

Hope you can join me on this adventure.
