This Sunday, I'm leading another GC training hike up Siphon Draw Trail to the Flatiron and yet unnamed western summit of Superstition Mountain. This is a short but difficult hike measuring 6 miles RT and a healthy 2,800 ft elevation gain. There are no switchbacks on this trail; it goes straight up the mountain. Plenty of rock hopping and one spot where you must climb up 12 ft. Expect to be out there 3.5-4 hours.
Despite aforementioned challenges, the Flatiron is one of the most spectacular vista points in town, overlooking the entire valley. Expect a sunny warm day with highs near 90 F. Hopefully, the brittlebush blossoms will have peaked in the foothills by Sunday. When timed properly, the slopes leading up to Siphon Draw are nothing short of spectacular with an awesome display of wildflowers.
Time and Place:
Sun 4/7: 9 am, Burger King SE corner US60 and Power Rd
9:30 am, Mining Camp Restaurant (look it up).
