My fb friends are asking how far we went last night. Does anyone have an approximate distance to the second take-out?

    September 30, 2012

    • Angie

If you went to Granite Reef it was aound 6 miles. If it was Phon De Sutten about 4 miles.

Tonto forest sign says free day

    September 29, 2012

  • Scott J.

Did anyone confirm if Tonto passes are required today?

    September 29, 2012

  • Teresa

Hi Brian, I wanted to make sure you received the reply I sent to your email of this afternoon... Yes on me borrowing the kayak. Could you confirm you will be bringing a kayak for me? And THANK YOU!

    September 29, 2012

    • Brian

I just got your email....so yes, I will bring the kayak and paddle for you.

      September 29, 2012

    • Brian

Hope you get this in time. Either way...there will be an extra boat on the back of my truck. Hope you can make it.

No hurry but how long does this stretch typically take in a kayak? Do we go all the way to the dam?

    September 28, 2012

    • Angie

Yes, but this time we are going to point 6/ Granite Reef to avoid the hill. :) so add about 45 more minutes. Unless everyone wants to do Phon De again. I prefer Grainte we can decide at the bridge. At Grainte Reef 5 steps and you are at your truck w/ kayaks.

      September 28, 2012

    • Scott

I vote for Granite Reef, that hill sucks. :)

It's a full moon tonight and my plans fell through. Does anybody have a two man kayak or an extra kayak? let me know! (I'm pretty experienced at kayaking...)

    September 29, 2012

  • Angie

See everyone there! North side of bridge and we will wait till 8:45 just in case anyone is running late. Don't forget the glowsticks.

    September 28, 2012

  • David G.

    this might be useful...

Tonto National Forest, joining with other agencies included under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA), is hosting a fee-free day on Saturday, September 29. Day-use fees will be waived at all standard amenity fee sites operated by the forest. Camping and campground fees are not waived.

Is a headlamp sufficient lighting during a full moon paddle?

    Hi Everyone,

Just like last time, north side of bridge this time 8:30 pm then we will drop trucks off at the end which this time I was thinking Granite Reef since it's like 4 steps and you're at your truck. Don't forget blue pass and glow sticks.

    September 8, 2012

    • Scott

It's a Tonto pass, I bought mine at Sportsman's Warehouse.

      September 27, 2012

    • Angie

You can also get them at some gas station. Look for a tonto sign outside.

      September 28, 2012

  • Jill

Ok, not to be a pain BUT, where is the bridge? I have only tubed down the Salt River and was transported via their shuttle to the dropping off point. Perhaps I can meet up with someone (near the area) and caravan or carpool?

I am also less than clear on the bridge location. By chance, are there gps coordinates available? I will likely be coming from Ftn Hills/Beeline Hwy.

Can someone give me info on camping options are nearby? I'm considering staying overnight and then doing it again in the morning.

I know they let snowbirds park their RV's in the winter time at the Salt but I don't think you can in the summer. However, I could be wrong. There is a motel of sorts down there though it's in between point 1 and S. Lake...

Thank you Angie - I'm going to find out as I am not driving back to Scottsdale to return for a 7am paddle :-).

Lol...u rock! I will have fun and be fashionable at the same time. What more could a woman ask for?! :)

    September 26, 2012

Yes, if u can transport it there for me. :)

No prob, will meet you there. Should you need it I'll also have your PFD (medium, in fashionable dark green) and a paddle. You don't want to be up the Salt River without a paddle.

      September 26, 2012

  • Jill

    Thank u Steve!!!

    September 26, 2012

I too would like to go but I am kayak-less and also wouldn't be able to transport a rental with my little itty-bitty car. :(
    Any extras?

Does anyone have an extra kayak? Otherwise, do you think it is possible to transport one in the back of a Jeep Wrangler sticking out the back? I don't know I've never done this before, lol.

    September 10, 2012

    • Angie

Thanks Scott for letting Crystal know where. I do have kayaks but they are already claimed. 40 bucks is going to be the cheapest. However, if you think you will go again you can buy them on Craigslist for about 150 & up.

      September 11, 2012

    • Brian

Hey Crystal. Sorry for the late reply here....haven't been following the posts, but I have a boat and paddle you can borrow if you like. I have a truck so I can carry for you also...no need to cram a boat into your wrangler. Let me know.
