Horton Creek - Fall Colors Hike

  • October 20, 2012 · 9:00 AM

I am hiking the Horton Creek trail on Saturday, October 20th.  Although I have hiked it many times during the summer, I have never hiked it in the fall.  I heard the fall colors are very impressive.  Meet me at 9:00 AM, in the parking lot near Target, off of Shea and route 87.  We'll carpool up to the trailhead, which is about 16 miles east of Payson.

Distance: 7 miles round trip

Elevation Gain: 1200 feet

Difficulty: Moderate

Bring a picnic lunch for the end of the trail.  After the hike, we'll go into Payson for dinner.  This is a dog-friendly hike.  Make sure you dress appropriately.  The temperatures are in the mid 60's during the day and mid 40's at night, at this time of year.

The area closure has been lifted as of 5:00 pm today: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/article/3296/18199/. Our hike will proceed as planned. If we find that there are problems, we will do an alternative hike.

I like to know if that fire "big canyon" is an issue... It's hitting the highline trail and seems close!

Shanna / Roger, I won't be able to do it on the 27th, since I have other plans for that day. Ginger, we are going to do the out-and-back, not the loop.

Are we going to do the full way around (or the loop?)
Your timing is great as far as the colors! Thanks for posting!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
