Hike Wilson Mountain in Sedona!

Time for a hike in Sedona. Hopefully we'll catch some Fall colors.  We will hike just about 3.75 miles to the top of Wilson Mountain from its north side, with a positive elevation gain of 2200 feet, so there will be some strenuous cardio effort involved!   We'll summit and then turn around and go back, for a total of about 7.5 miles. The north side hike will give us views of Oak Creek and the surrounding valley and, if the colors have started, we'll get great views and picture opportunities. For more information about this trail, visit this site: http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=628

Depending on the number of people we have, we may have the opportunity to set this up as a shuttle hike and hike from either the south side on the Wilson Mountain trail (#10) through to the North Wilson Mountain trail (#123), or vice versa. This will give us the opportunity to see great views of Sedona as well. The total distance would be about the same as a shuttle hike.

What to bring: 2+ liters of water, good hiking shoes, a camera, snacks and I always like to carry a $2 rain poncho in my pack just in case I forget to check weather. A warm layer would probably be advisable as well, as it could feel a bit cooler up there for us Phoenicians.

For east side commuters, we will meet at Tempe AMF Lanes on the southeast corner of Rural Road and Rte. 60 behind the Denny's at 7:15 AM and head up to the north valley meetup spot at 7:30 AM. We will meet in the north valley at the Red Robin parking lot on Happy Valley Road at 8:00 AM. Post a comment if you are interested in carpooling from the south end of town.

I expect the hike will take us about 3 - 4 hours. If we are on the road shortly after 8, we should be on the trail about 10:30 and finishing up about 1:30 - 2:30ish. After the hike, we can stop in Sedona for a late lunch and some fudge! I love to buy fudge there... If we have enough time, we can poke around in the shops too.

Happy Hiking!
Terri

This was really an amazing hike .... I loved the views and loved the people. The organizer was really helpful and didn't even get mad at the few of us who got lost for awhile :)

Sorry we missed you Gail! It was a beautiful hike. If you get up to Sedona again soon, I would totally recommend it. If you stop by the Red Rock Recreation office there on 89A, they can give you a map and any information you may need. Hope to see you on another hike sometime soon!

Sorry we missed this hike with you. We had trouble finding it and I think we were in the right place but a bit late. We did a hike but probably not the same one as you. Unfortunately cell phone service wasn't available to call.

Hi Everyone! From what I can tell, we will need to park near the Encinosa Picnic area on the west side of 89A just south of Slide Rock State Park. The trail head leaves from the picnic area and will be marked. If you have any troubles, just call me on my cell. See you in the morning!

Awesome. If for some reason we can't make the hike, I will call or text you so you're not waiting for us.

I printed out directions but if there is a more specific meeting location, please let me know as well. We will be in Sedona already and plan on getting to the location by 10:30 a.m. unless we hear otherwise. My cell number is[masked]-8668. Thank you. Gail

I am in, however, since I plan to stay overnight in the area, I will drive myself up there. Would someone kindly call me to give me specifics on location we are meeting as it seems it may be up for negotiation at this point? I have a tendency to get lost or end up at the wrong place :) :(
