Lecture - Wounded: From Battlefield to Blighty, 1914-1918 Dr Emily Meyhew

Wounded: From Battlefield to Blighty,[masked] by Dr Emily Meyhew

I don't usually go for wartime stories but this sounded particularly interesting.

From Battlefield to Blighty traces a journey made by a casualty from the battlefield of the Western Front to a hospital in Britain. It is a story told through the testimony of those who cared for him – stretcher bearers and medical officers, surgeons and chaplains, often mentally and physically unprepared and frequently on the verge of collapse nurses – from the aid post in the trenches to the casualty clearing station and the ambulance train back to Blighty.

Please book (free) tickets from the Eventbrite website BEFORE confirming your attendance.

As it is a fairly early start I think we should meet at the entrance to the Surgeon's Hall a quarter of an hour before the start of the lecture at 5.45pm.  If we don't all meet prior it's not the end of the world. Meet afterwards at the cafe which is just up the road.

Afterwards we will move on to Spoon cafe/restaurant in order to discuss.

I thoroughly enjoyed the talk, but unfortunately a work situation had to be attended to and I couldn't join the discussion.
But I liked the feel of the group- my first time- and hope to come again.

Well I am coming along as a novice and no sure about the "discuss" part. It all sounds a bit formal to me but hopefully I will enjoy it!

Hello Marcella - the discuss part is very informal! We just meet after the event to talk about it a bit more and share our thoughts over a glass of wine or a cup of tea. Look forward to meeting you tomorrow.

Also it's very nice at the Spoon - really great drinks alcoholic and non-alcoholic - and good food!

I will try to be there but cannot guarantee, For background, I'd urge viewing of Gilles McKinnon's magnificent film Regeneration. It's a rarity to recommend a Scottish movie! The film is based on a novel (Pat Barker) which I have not read but maybe will try to do so before next week.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
