SQL Server Q&A Round Table

This month, in lieu of a presentation, we'll be having a round table discussion on any topics of interest to the group.  Bring your questions and discussion topics.

Proposed ideas for discussion:

• Which features of SQL Server do you use?  Which do you want to start using?

• Have a particularly troublesome problem you've been working on?

• Have you been planning a new feature or server deployment?

• Are you a developer looking to learn more about working with SQL Server?

• Are you a new DBA looking to dive deeper?

• What are your upgrade plans?  2012?  2014?

Thanks for the tips. I learned a lot. I added NOLOCK on some of my report queries and I don't get deadlock victims any more. I switched around my backup procedures so 6 nights a week it only takes 20 minutes and 1 night does everything for 40 minutes. I also moved the backup to the hour with the least amount of web traffic hitting the database. I also switched from using @@IDENTITY to SCOPE_IDENTITY after an insert.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
