Thai Temple on the peaceful Palm River

It's been much too long since we've been here!  This will be a very loosely organized event where you are free to wander the food and produce booths and visit the temple.  We will try to meet around 12:30 with our dining delights

Wat Monkolrataranaram (Thai Temple, Tampa) holds the Sunday Market every Sunday between approximately 10:30 am and 2:00 pm at the Temple. The market includes a wide variety of Thai food (seasoned to your taste).  There is also a booth that sells plants and fresh vegetables that are difficult to find anywhere else

Contrary to rumor, all Thai food is not super spicy. Most of the food can be seasoned to taste from mild to red hot. The food is authentic Thai prepared by Temple volunteers. The menu includes:

Grilled pork or chicken on a stick

Pad Thai - vegetable and noodles (vegetarian-friendly)

Various chicken curry dishes with vegetables

Spring rolls (a big favorite of our visitors):  chicken, shrimp or vegetable

"Guiteow" - Beef or pork noodle soup

"Som Dom" - Thai Papaya salad. This can be seasoned as spice or bland as you like.

Fried bananas, taro root, and sweet potatoes

A wide variety of Thai deserts

Thai tea and coffee

Cold soda and water

You may enter the temple but please observe certain protocols.  Women:  Cover your shoulders and don't wear short shorts (do we wear those anymore?)  Remove your shoes before entering.  If you'd like to sit, do not aim the soles of your feet toward the statues.  Take photos quietly and quickly.

Note:  It can get quite crowded here.  I'll do my best to be noticeable but if you don't find the group, don't fret.  We might be walking around the grounds or waiting in line for food.  Relax and enjoy the atmosphere and the incredible food.  I'll email my phone number to attendees on Saturday so you can call or text me if you can't find us.  Also, please check the meetup site Saturday night/Sunday morning for possible cancellation due to weather.

Hi Liz, Dorian and everyone - my apologies for spazzing out and not making the meetup. I thought it was next week. I'd like to blame it on brain freeze (since I just got back from NY) along with getting over the flu and a long week at work. But the truth is I just goofed. So sorry!!!! I promise I'll get the next one right!

No worries Marguerite...we'll go again in a few months. Hope you recover completely from the flu. It took me 3 weeks to get over it! I bet you're glad to be back in the sunshine!

Bring old crackers, bread, etc. to feed the fish from the pier. The monks also accept gifts (mostly food) brought into the Temple.

    January 31, 2014

    • Dorian L.

Please do not bring old crackers for the monks.]

      2 · February 4, 2014

    • Brian

Many bring large sacks of rice. I can picture monks saying "I'm SO sick of rice!" ... how about some pasta?

      1 · February 5, 2014

  • Brian

    ooops
I suggest getting there much earlier IF you want to observe the monk's noon celebrations in the Temple. If nothing else ... try the Thai tea !!!

Folks can arrive whenever they want and may observe traditions in the temple; however, we will meet to eat lunch at 12:30.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
