It was a good time for those of us who where polite and came. I have a RUDE individual list of those who didn't show up and didn't change their RVSP to not coming. Those of us who showed up made enough food for those who we thought were coming. The RUDE ones on my list will be left out of anything I bring to share in the future, you can mark my word!

Not judging anyone that didn't come but this is true. Everyone brought enough food for a large group! Brett had fantastic homemade egg rolls!

Weecki Wachee was a great time! We may not have set any speed records but we sure made up for it in fun. Sorry I haven't uploaded videos, yet. Between school and kayaking, I'm hoping to get to it buy Sunday.

The rain detracted nothin' from this wonderful camping/kayaking trip. Thanks Bob & Brett for the delicious food; and thanks Arnold, for all the firewood; and thanks to Terry for bringing the coffee. Liz, welcome to the camping world & thanks for being my water partner. Delilah--you go, girl.

      September 27

If everything falls into place, I'll be there bright and early Saturday morning. If I'm not there by 8:30, I'm not coming. I paddled up-river and back from Roger's Park this morning and it was gorgeous with lots of wildlife. The River is cool but not cold. It will be crowded tomorrow and it may be bumper cars going up-river but will still be fun.

Just want to thank everyone for the great offers, I hope to meet all of you at the next meet up.

Sorry to have to cancel, too much going on this weekend. Stayed there last year and went for a moonlit paddle, it was really awesome. Wish this was a different weekend. Have fun.

    September 26

  • Rebecca U.

I called to confirm my Tandem Kayak and they said they don't have one available for me...has anyone reserved one that's not going to make it out by any chance?

    September 25

    • kathleen

Hi Rebecca. First Happy Birthday! You'll love the WW. I hope you can make it. I can't go because it's my mum's b-day this weekend, too. But, and you might have already tried this, but the Kayak Shack is usually easier to reserve a kayak. I have been pretty lucky getting one for last minute company. Paddling Adv. at the park is booked up well in advance during season anyway. Not sure about tandems, though. It's across from Rogers Park and you can either paddle up to the camp which-don't quote me-is maybe 2.5-3 miles or they will transport you upstream and you can paddle down. From the head back to Rogers park is 6 miles. Just in case, 352/610-4169. Good luck!

      September 26

    • kathleen

Now, that I think about it, it's probably only about 1.5-2 miles upstream to the camp.

      1 · September 26

  • michele c.

$5.00 per person will go to the camp. We'll be on the water at 10. Hopefully we'll want to do a night paddle & I plan on a Sun sunrise paddle. If anyone wants to participate in the Sat potluck, please share what you will bring. Hopefully we'll all be able to bring some firewood & that the rain will not want to stay around.

    September 22

    • Bob

I am bringing a marinated vegetable and pasta dish as well as a four bean salad.

      September 23

    • Liz B.

I'll be bringing some marinated chicken. It might add well to the other pasta and vegetable dishes being brought. Would anyone like to do s'mores? I could contribute graham crackers.

      September 26

  • michele c.

Rebecca, did you call the kayak place near the camp? With Bob's yak & the yak from the rental place, you would be good to go.

    September 25

  • michele c.

Liz, last time I camped there, people brought their own portable camp stoves. I called the camp manager & left a msg about your question & I'll post the answer when he calls me back. Their website lists one of the amenities as having a mess hall but I wasn't in it to see what it included.

    September 25

  • michele c.

I'll bring veggies of some kind for Sat. Other groups camp there so it's probably not a good idea to leave anything up there. I've also gotten free firewood from Craigslist.

So others use this place, does this mean we could have nonmember neighbors during our episode?

      September 4

    • Liz B.

Hi Michelle, how can we warm up food? Will there be a grill over the fire or do we need charcoal?

      September 24

  • Ed C.

I have a change of schedule and can not make the weekend.

    September 23

  • michele c.

Bob, thanks for the kayak offer but I will not need it. See you on Sat.

    September 23

    • Bob

Ok. I am planning on going up there Friday morning and stay a couple of nights. If anyone else needs a kayak, please let me know by Thursday evening.

      September 23

  • Liz B.

Does anyone plan to drop in upriver? The current is strong and the campsite is located downriver.

    September 18

    • Elisa

I would love to launch at the weeki wachee springs!

      September 18

    • ivonne k.

I might launch from WW I tried going upstream at Silver Springs but was only able to paddle two miles.

      September 22

  • michele c.

This is a temporary schedule that is open to fluctuate due to weather changes:
If people arrive at 9, set up tents & get the yaks in the water, we can be on the water at 10. We will launch from the camp, go upstream & then paddle downriver. There are multiple spots to snack. That will prevent shuttling & driving cars to take outs. The beauty of camping there is that we don't have to be driving--we can use our time there swimming, kayaking & relaxing. Every time I kayak there I see manatees & deer & get a workout swimming against the current. You're welcome to join me for a Sunday sunrise paddle. The Sat night potluck: please bring something to share that vegetarians & non-vegetarians will enjoy.

    1 · September 19

    • ivonne k.

So we pay the 5 dollar p/p fee, and find a spot for the tent?

      September 22

  • Bob

Michele, I will bring the extra kayak for her! I will have a paddle and life vest for her! Very cool! I will be there early and we will all have a great time!!

    September 19

  • michele c.

I would like to borrow the extra yak. I will be raising a 15-yr-old foster daughter & I do not yet have a yak for her. She probably has never kayaked before. Thanks.

    September 19

  • Bob

I have an extra kayak if anyone needs one. Just let me know and I will bring it with me with a life vest and paddle

    September 19

  • michele c.

Because there are 4 possibilities, it might work out that people decide to do different trips. It's also likely that after doing 1 trip, people will come back to camp & eat, rest & then do a another trip. There's a night paddle that would be fun & a Sunday sunrise paddle that I plan on doing.

    1 · September 18

  • Bob

I am a newbie on this, but, if we all get to the camping site in the morning, set up camp, we can then compile our resources and gather our gear, we can probably work out where we can drive to a destination, put our yaks in and then retrieve our cars later. I suggest that we all get there early, set up camp and then see what our resources are and formulate a plan. I am sorry if I sound "funny" since this is my first time, but, it is hard to plan until we are all together. But, if we meet in the morning, we can then plan a really cool adventure together. We have all day!! I am so willing to put as many kayaks onto my vehicle as possible for transport. As long as we all have as much fun as possible...lol! Just trying to make things simple and fun without spending a lot of money!

    September 18

  • michele c.

There are a few possibilities. One idea is to paddle from the camp up or down river, drive to Paddling Adventures, the launch, pay the $6.00 fee, or go to Rogers Park--the takeout point, pay to park or drive to Bayport which is about 2 miles from Rogers Park, park a few vehicles there & shuttle back to Paddling Adventures to start. I'm not sure how many people will show up or which preference each has.

    September 18

  • Bob

Since I have never done this before with everyone, do we go to the campsite, set up our site and then we get together to do some kayaking? Do we gather resources and drive upstream, paddle down and then retrieve our vehicles later? I have a Tahoe with Two racks on the roof and, of course, room inside for, possibly two kayaks. Maybe even an extra kayak on the roof if we secure it right. I saw a couple of posts of dropping off at the top of the river. Sorry, never been there before, not sure what to expect.

    September 18

    • Bob

That is cool! Maybe we can set up camp and then head up stream and kayak back! I mean, If we get at the camp site early, we will have plenty of time to do it! I am planning on being there early morning to set up camp!

      September 18

    • Bob

      Or down stream...lol!

Even though we'll miss the official autumn equinox by a few days, we can still welcome this special time. Being right next to the Weeki Wachee is certainly something to celebrate.

Fantastic! I will bring some firewood! It is so awesome to sit around a campfire when camping. I will come up with something for everyone to eat! Looking forward to meeting everyone.

    September 17

  • michele c.

Bob, you'll drive into the camp & set up your tent where you choose. I'm hoping that everyone will want to do a potluck Sat night. Bring whatever food you want to share. I'm bringing veggies of some sort. Bringing firewood would be helpful.

    September 17

  • Bob

Disregard the last post I made. My daughter will be spending the night at her friends house. I will be going. I will try to find some wood to bring. Also, are we all eating together for dinner? If so, what can I bring? I am new to this, so any advice for me would be great! Thanks, looking forward to this trip! Oh, do we drive right up to the camping site?

    September 17

I have a 13 year old daughter and I was wondering if there will be any other kids coming?

My family has an uncanny way of knowing when I want to go kayaking and camping. Have another family event planned by family that I have to attend. Have fun.

    September 12

  • michele c.

The camp is rented out to different groups. The caretaker didn't say another group will be there when we're there. I was responding to your post about leaving the firewood at the site--I didn't want you to run the risk of having another group have access to it.

Tina, yes you can rent a kayak. Visit the WW site & search for the kayak info. You might want to reserve a yak. Are you coming for the day or camping?

Thanks Michele for info. I properly come camping and kayaking. I want to do some research before I RVSP. I has been at this spring and it nice.
