Kayaking @ Sargent Park/Hillsborough River

>>>  This is a shuttle event so please do NOT be late, 9am

>>>  Go to Sargents Park first and drop off your kayak, then drive to Morris Bridge 13330 Morris Bridge Rd, Thonotosassa, Fl 33592 and return to Sergeant Park and launch from there. One or two drivers would have to volunteer to drive the kayakers back to Sergeant's.

Per Canoe Escape, the vegetation after Morris Bridge Park is too dense to paddle.  We will have to exit at Morris Bridge instead of going further to Trout Creek. We can lengthen the trip by taking a tributary right outside Sergeant Park and then head down to Morris Bridge where we can have lunch.

Cost: County parks charge a $2.00 parking fee.

If you want to rent a canoe or yak, you can make reservations with Canoe Escape at [masked]. They are at Sargents Park.

What to bring: water, food, camera, PFD.

>>> need volunteers with big cars to shuttle people from Morris Bridge back to launch point at Sargents. It will be only 1 trip each. Please post or email me. Vans eagerly accepted

Description:

Its good group paddle with plenty of time to chat, hang out and just kick back without saying a word ;)

>>>See pictures and Comments from our last 2 Hillsborough River paddles. We all had a great time!

What a beautiful day on a treasure of a river--shade, birds, gators, turtles & a strong current. Thanks, everyone for your company, stories & humor. Thanks to those who shuttled us. The next time we travel this river, we'll go to Trout Creek.

I've never kayaked on the Hillsborough River, so I want to be clear about the Shuttle points. When I clicked on to the map link above and entered my home location, the directions did lead me to the Sargent Park address (12702 N US 301), but the blue line continues to a point much further North. Then when I plug in the above supplied address for Morris Bridge (13330 Morris Bridge Road), the directions end at a spot on the map far from where Morris Bridge Road (579) actually crosses the Hillsborough River (where I assume the bridge is). Could you please clarify, I don't want anyone to delay the launch by going to the wrong spot... I'm looking forward to this new kayaking venue.

I hit the same thing but Sergeant Park is really easy to find on US 301 when you drive. Morris Bridge is just up the Interstate, Fletcher Ave exit, take Fletcher until it turns into Morris Bridge and you'll see the park on your left after a duple of miles.

Sounds OK, just make sure he wears his vest. Has he been kayaking before? I'll adjust the count.

Yes he has been kayaking before. We will see you Sunday

Next Sun we will have to start the shuttle at 9 so that we can get on the water by 10. If you need to reach me that day, you can email me in advance at [masked] and I will give you my cell #. To the people on the wait list: please plan to paddle w/us. Often things happen and people have to cancel at the last minute.

I took a group this past Sunday (aug 31) from Sargeants to Trout Creek. It is do-able but there is about 100 meters of thick, dense hyacinths to break through. A bit of a challenge. A few of us broke a trail and then waded back to help a few of the others and another group that had stopped. Bring a machete...it will help.

Thanks, Keith! But I don't want anyone to get confused:....As stated above, this trip is NOT going to Trout Creek. This is from Sargent's to Morris Bridge and getting out there. ;)

I've done this one before but can't remember if the pick up point for Canoe Escape is at Morris Bridge, can someone let me know please. I plan on paying them to ferry me back to the starting point.
