MakerBot assembly at MOSI

This will be our first weekly meeting in the MOSI FabLab.  We're helping the Lab to assemble a MakerBot but any and all projects are welcome.

Tom pointed out in the schematics that there were three pins controlling direction on the X motor driver board. When we opened up the box and examined that board, those three pins were not soldered properly:

    Nice catch, Tom!

Awesome! Good job, everyone. What ended up being the problem? How did the test objects turn out? If you guys have any pictures you should post them up. Looking forward to the next maker bot build. Later, guys.

UPDATE: Dan and I stoped by MOSI this morning to troubleshoot the MakerBot. It is now up and running. We even printed a couple of test objects. I think we all did a great job working together!

We can see if the MakerBot exibits this same behavior by manually closing the end-stop switch on the Y or Z axis and seeing if that axis starts moving in only one direction. If it does, if it does, we could have an end-stop switch problem.

Sounds good Dan. So far I have not found much on the X-axis problem myself. I did find something, but it was not specifically for the MakerBot. It said "If an axis moves in only one direction, then the hardware end-stop invert setting needs to be flipped. What causes this is that the controller thinks the endstop is always blocked, so it will only allow you to move away. "

It occurred to me that we could load G Code for X+ and X-. If that works, we can pin the problem on the software.

All, I started checking into our MakerBot problems. As for the ABP belt not moving, that is a know problem when using firmware v3.0. They even mention that the fan comes on instead just as ours did. There is an easy fix. As for the X-axis problem, I am just starting to look into it. I do know that pin-4 of the motherboard connectors that go to the driver boards controls the direction. It must not be setting/clearing as needed.

I don't want to wait until 9:30 to eat, but am still interested in a beer afterwards!

I plan to eat beforehand at Gumby's Pizza at 5:15-5:30, if anybody would like to join me, please come!

Sounds great! Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. I'll bring the super glue, metric rulers, and oil. It'll be a party.

Sure! We can move up to CDB's Pizza (& pub) or The Copper Top, which are both right across from MOSI at 51st and Fowler Ave

I'm gonna take a pre-emptive assumption that it's likely we will want to continue the meeting past 9:30 (when we need to be out of the museum) and see if you guys want to go somewhere afterwards. Maybe get a bite to eat or something.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
