Benjamin Dion will be giving an introduction into the diverse and amazing world of fungi, focusing on edible and medicinal mushroom species commonly cultivated and/or found in South/Central Florida. I will cover everything from the basic life cycles, uses, and ecological roles of various mushroom species, to mushroom hunting and identification, home-scale mushroom cultivation, and mycopermaculture. My talk will cover everything you need to know regarding home-scale mushroom cultivation, including where to buy supplies and live mushroom cultures, how to make your own grow boxes and grow bags, and how to build closet labs and indoor/outdoor mushroom grow-rooms. I’ll also provide a step-by-step demonstration on how I do everything, including how I clone mushrooms in petri dishes (agar) and do grain-to-grain transfers. All participants will go home with their own oyster mushroom kit! The cost for this class is $45. Seating is limited. Pre-registration is required for this event.
